Attribution of a Research Scholarship (for PhD student)

Generic scientific area: Technology

Abstract of the announcement:

A concourse for the attribution of 1 (one) Research Scholarship is opened under the project UIDB/04111/2020, financed by national funds through the FCT/MCTES, under the following conditions:

Scientific Area: Telecommunications and Network.

Admission requirements: a) to be enrolled in a PhD study program; b) not to exceed, with the conclusion of the scholarship contract in question, including possible renewals, an accumulated period of four years of having this type of scholarship, continuous or intermittent.

Work plan: This work requires to compute the freshness of the information in a wireless communication system that employs simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT) operating under ultra-reliable low-latency communication (URLLC) conditions. The Age of Information (AoI) calculates the time difference between the current time and the timestamp of the most recent update received by the receiver is used here to estimate the freshness of information. Additionally, the short packet communication scheme will be used to fulfil the reliability and latency requirements.

Workplace: The work will be developed at COPELABS, under the scientific supervision of Prof. Dushantha Nalin K. Jayakody.

Scholarship duration: The grant has duration of 3 months, with possible extension up to 6 months, starting on October 1st, 2022.

Monthly maintenance allowance amount: The scholarship amount corresponds to € 1144.64, according to the table of values of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, IP in Portugal (https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/docs/Table_Valores_SMM_LOE_2021.pdf). The scholarship will be paid monthly on the last working day of each month by bank transfer
