Offer Description
Under the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP, Regulation No. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, No. 241, of December 16, 2019, of the Regulation of Research Grants of the University of Lisbon, Dispatch No. 6238/2020, of 12 June, published in Diário da República, 2nd Series, no. 113, of 12 June 2020, and of the Statute of the Research Fellowship (EBI), Decree-Law no. 123/2019, of 28 August, published in the Diário da República, 1st Series, no. 164, of 28 August 2019, it is made known that a call for the award of 1 (one) Postdoctoral Research Fellowship within the scope of the project 2022.07857.PTDC, titled: “Ferrous Iron-Activable Drug Conjugates: Targeting Iron Metabolism in the Era of Precision Oncology”, funded by Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) is open under the following conditions:
Scientific Area: Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Chemistry
Research Grant Duration: The research will have a duration of 18 months non-renewable months, starting in April 2023, on an exclusivity regime, in accordance with the terms of the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, IP.
Work plan: The objective of this work is is to synthesize and identify conjugates based on endoperoxides activated by reaction with the ferrous ion (FeADC) that allow the selective release into cancer cells of different cytotoxic agents.
Workplace and Scientific Guidance: The work will be carried out in the Medicinal Chemistry Laboratory (Building F), at the premises of the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Lisbon, under the scientific supervision of Dr. Rui Ferreira Alves Moreira, Full Professor, Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Lisbon.

- Research on the discovery of biomarkers, targets, and therapeutic strategies in experimental models of disease and translation for patients;
- Development and implementation of small molecule screening platforms;
- Proven expertise in molecular and cellular biology techniques, gene expression and protein production, monolayer and 3D mammalian cell culture.
- Preferably, the candidate must have good command of the English language; motivation for interdisciplinary scientific research; and immediate availability to join the project.
- PhD in Pharmaceutical and Therapeutic Chemistry, or related areas;
- Have obtained the Doctoral degree in the 3 years prior to the date of submission of the application.

Additional Information
Monthly maintenance stipend: The monthly maintenance stipend (grant) corresponds to 1.741,00€, according to the table of values directly attributed by FCT, I.P. (https://www.fct.pt/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/Tabela-de-Valores-SMM_2023.pdf). Payment will be made via bank transfer.
In addition to the monthly maintenance stipend the grant holder will also be awarded with the value correspondent to the payment of the first step of Seguro Social Voluntário (voluntary payment of Social Security), in case he/she chooses to be included in this regime.

The documents that instruct the application must be submitted in Portuguese or English language.
No document that should have been submitted in the application phase can be submitted after the deadline set in the opening notice. Failure to comply with the deadline set for the submission of the application, as well as the lack or late submission of documents referred to in this point will determine the exclusion from the competition.
Evaluation and rating criteria:
1st Phase. Candidate's Merit: Aims to assess compliance with the formal requirements requested in the opening notice, but also to consider the adequacy of the scientific area of training and/or specialization, training and professional experience, with a maximum weighting of 70%.
Adequacy of the Scientific Training Area (AACF): Maximum weighting of 20%.
- PhD in Pharmaceutical and Therapeutical Chemistry or related areas (PhD) - 0 to 20 points
Training and Experience (FE): Maximum weighting of 30%.
- Evidence of application of synthesis, purification and structural identification methods to obtain bioactive molecules (EXPPIE) - 0 to 20 points
Specific competencies for the proposed work plan (CEPTP): Maximum weighting of 20%.
- Experience in drug design and innovation and entrepreneurship activities (EXPDFAIE) - 0 to 20 points.
2nd Phase. Selection Interview: The 5 best candidates will be invited to conduct a Professional Selection Interview, with a maximum duration of 30 minutes. The interview will have a maximum weighting of 30% and aims to objectively and systematically evaluate the following criteria:
- Quality of Professional Experience (QEP);
- Expression Capacity and Verbal Fluency (CEFV);
- Motivation and Responsibility (MR);
- Critical Sense (CS);
- Knowledge of the area (CA).
The interview classification will be obtained by the simple arithmetic mean of the evaluation criteria, which will be done according to the following parameters: Excellent (20 points), Very Good (18 points), Good (16 points), Sufficient (12 points), and Insufficient (8 points).
Final Classification: The score obtained in the final classification results from the sum of the points obtained in the Candidate's Merit (70%), and in the Selection Interview (30%), for which an individual sheet is filled out for each candidate.

1st Alternate Member of the Jury – Francisca da Conceição Lopes, PhD, Associate Professor with Habilitation, FFUL;
2nd Alternate Member of the Jury - Pedro Miguel Pimenta Góis, PhD, Associte Professor with Habilitation, FFUL.
Form of notification of results: All candidates will be notified of the final results of the valuation by email, and will have 10 working days after the aforementioned notification to say something, in accordance with the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure.
After this notification, and in case there are no claims, the results will become final. In case of claims, and after the allegation is analysed and accepted or rejected, the results will become final after 10 business days.
After the final decision is made, a complaint/appeal can be filed to the Director of the FARM-ID – Faculty of Pharmacy Research and Development Association, Maria Beatriz da Silva Lima, PhD, Full Professor, within 10 working days from the date of notification.
