  1. OBJECTIVES | TASKS

As AI and social agents (or robots) are placed in social environments with humans, the potential for AI errors and failures is enormous, with potentially devastating impact. And as people start relying more and more on the decisions of the AI agents, they decrease their attention to the tasks, and AI decisions may be blindly trusted, leading negative effects. In this work we will explore ways for agents to learn how to detect there is a failure in either the task or the communication and engage the human to mitigate such failure.  This will be done, exploring humans in the loop, and training a system to identify the errors through human intervention. Different types of domains will be explored (in particular in application areas of the partners in the Responsible AI Consortium), as well as different context variables that shape the way the AI interacts with humans. This thesis is part of a more broad topic in Human-AI collaboration and Social AI .
