Workplan: The successful candidate will take in a research and dissemination program, which entails addressing films as a starting point for philosophical thinking about the current political, military, economic and social situation in Ukraine, and other conflictual situations worldwide. Also, the program aims at raising the problem of cultural representation of war and its role in building collective memory and identity. It is supported by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT).
The research and dissemination program will include the organization of a cycle of films and two conferences on the topics of the program, which will be open to the public and held outside the University. The basic idea is to address art and aesthetics as a form of political engagement and, specifically, cinema as a starting point for philosophical thinking. Accordingly, the grant holder is expected to participate in the programming of a cycle of films and two conferences. Work towards at least one publication on the topic of War in Cinema and Philosophy, possibly co-authored with other members of IFILNOVA, is expected.
