A research position for 1 (one) Research Grant ("Bolsa de Licenciado") is open at Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território, in the scope of the Provision of Services called "Resilience Plan of Infrastructure to Climate Change (PRIC)”.

Admission Requirements:

Graduates in Geography or in related areas that are enrolled in Master's programs at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon.

The candidate must meet the following requirements:

- Degree in Geography or in similar areas;

- Be enrolled in a Master's program at IGOT-Ulisboa;

- Have knowledge in Climate Hazards;

- Have experience in the use of GIS and Spatial Modeling;

- Have good knowledge of Portuguese and English.

Eligibility of candidates

Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions provided for in article 9 of the FCT IP Research Grant Regulation (Regulation No. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 241 on December 16th, 2021).

Project Summary:

Characterization and mapping of current and future climate hazards [namely: rural/forest fires, slope instability, river floods, rising sea levels and overtopping coastal areas, and rise in temperature/excessive heat], in the area of ​​influence of the the entirety of the railway, road and telematics networks, managed by IP. The characterization of future climate hazards will consider scenarios RCP4.5 and RCP8.5, for horizons 2040-2050 and 2080-2100;  Assessment of future climate vulnerabilities of networks and their main components; i) construction of vulnerability indices; ii) georeferencing; iii) mapping of climate vulnerabilities (production of maps of vulnerability). Assessment of the future climate risk of the networks and their main components: i) construction of risk indices; ii) georeferencing; iii) mapping of climate risks (production of risk maps).

Work plan

The work plan of the grantee to be hired is as follows:

- Characterization and cartography of the current danger of river flooding in Portugal Continental.

- Estimation of reference flood return periods in 2040-2050 and 2080-2100, for climate scenarios RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5.

- Assessment of the exposure to the risk of river flooding of the railway networks, road and telematics, managed by IP.

Applicable legislation and regulations

Research Fellowship Statute; Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. - in force and the Regulation of Research Grants from the University of Lisbon – in force.

Place of work:

The work will be carried out at the Center for Geographical Studies of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, under the Scientific co-supervision of Professor José Luís Zêzere and Professor Eusébio Reis.

Duration: 6 months.

Start date: scheduled to start in July 2022, on an exclusive basis.

Monthly salary: 875,98€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ).

Selection criteria:

Curriculum evaluation (CE) comprises the following parameters:

- Degree Classification (30%);

- Curriculum Vitae (40%);

- Knowledge/experience in risks, GIS and Spatial Modeling (20%);

- Have good knowledge of Portuguese and English (10%).

The jury may, if it deems it necessary, call the candidates placed in the first 3 positions for an interview. In this case, the interview has a weight of 30%, added to the score obtained in the first selection phase, which will have a weight of 70%. The interview will take place at a date and time to be communicated to the candidates in due course.

The jury may not award any scholarship if the candidates do not correspond to the desired profile.

Jury

The selection panel for the applications for this scholarship is composed of the following elements:

- President of the Jury: Professor José Luís Zêzere, Full Professor of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

- 1st Effective Member: Doctor Eusébio Reis, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

- 2nd Effective Member: Professor Susana Pereira, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

- 1st Alternate Member: Doctor Pedro Pinto Santos, Researcher at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon;

- 2nd Alternate Member: Professor Sérgio Oliveira, Assistant Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon.

Results

The final results of the evaluation will be communicated to the candidates through a notification sent to the email address indicated for this purpose. If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to comment, wishing, in a prior hearing to interested parties, pursuant to Articles 121 and 122 of the Administrative Procedure Code (DL nº 4/2015 of January 7 and its changes).

The selected candidate must express in writing the intention to scholarship acceptance. In case of non-acceptance, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate in order of final ranking.

The call is open from 7th to 23rd of June 2022.

Regarding the qualification certificate, if the degree has been obtained in a foreign institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of  August 16th and Ordinance no. 33/2019, of January 25th, in its wording in force on the date of application;

  4. Proof of enrollment in a master's program;

  5. Other supporting documents considered relevant;

  6. Declaration of prior consent by electronic means.

Reference to the Call Ref.ª PRIAC 2022 must be indicated in the subject of the application email.
