PhD Position (f/m/d) On Usable Security and Privacy

When security tools are too complicated, users don’t adopt them, bypass them, or make mistakes that put individuals and organizations at risk. The aim of our research group is to explore the design space and build security technologies that are easy to use, inclusive, and privacy-friendly. Our vision is that people should be able to live a secure digital life without having deep technical knowledge. Towards this end, we conduct research on a variety of topics, including password security and usability, behavioral implicit authentication, behavioral data privacy, privacy awareness, and transparency enhancing technologies.
The initial contract is for three years but limited to the duration of the PhD-project. An extension to finish the PhD is possible in accordance with the rules of the Academic Fixed-Term Contract Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz – WissZeitVG).
Your duties and responsibilities:
• Conduct research in Usable Security and Privacy
• Take part in teaching (approx. 4h/week)
• Contribute to our culture of doing great work while having fun
Your profile:
• Master degree in computer science or related field
• Solid programming background
• Analytical skills, teamwork, independent, enthusiastic about usable security
• Excellent writing and communication skills in English
• Knowledge in IT security and/or user research
