Call for a Post-doctoral position
funded by the National Science Center as part of the project „The importance of social relationships and social bonds for animals’ behavioural expression, health and fitness -
pigs as a model to explore underlying physiological mechanisms” no 2020/39/B/NZ8/02508
Discipline: animal science and fisheries
Research topic: Social relationships in pigs and the importance of social relationships on health and fitness.
Description of tasks:
The post-doctoral researcher will work in a highly multidisciplinary environment. The project will focus mainly on social behaviour of pigs, which can be approached from an evolutionary perspective as well as for its relevance to animal welfare. The tasks include data collection on research pigs in Edinburgh, UK (several months) and in Poland, collection of samples, laboratory analyses, and writing of scientific publications. The candidate will have the opportunity to work on grant proposals for securing future funding.

Conditions of employment:
Contract duration: 36 months
Gross salary: approx. 8 300 gross PLN/month
Planned date of commencement of work in the project: negotiable but preferably October 1, 2022
Eligibility criteria
The application should contain:
1. CV containing information about previous research and scientific achievements to date (employment, publications, awards, research internships, organizational and didactic activities, participation in training and conferences).
2. Cover letter.
3. Diploma of obtaining the title of doctor (certified photocopy); obtained not earlier than 7 years before the year of employment in the project (not including periods of maternity/parental /paternity and parental leave).
4. Contact details (e-mail address) to the previous supervisor and/or doctoral dissertation supervisor.
5. According to the regulations of the National Science Center, during the period of receiving remuneration, selected candidates cannot receive any other remuneration from the funds allocated as direct costs from research projects financed under the NCN calls nor remuneration from another employer under an employment contract, including from an employer based outside the territory of the Republic of Poland.

Skills/Qualifications
Requirements for the candidate:
- PhD degree or equivalent in animal science, ecology, biology, veterinary or similar (or obtaining such degree by September 30).
- High motivation for scientific work.
- Fluency in English speech and writing.
- Experience in conducting scientific research and a proven record of scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong interest in animal behaviour. Experience with pigs is a pre.
- Knowledge and skills in the use of laboratory techniques is welcome.
- Flexibility and willingness to work in and travel to different countries (Poland, UK).
- General competences - good organization of work, including the ability to work independently as well as working in an interdisciplinary research team, creative thinking, precision and conscientiousness.
