OFFER DESCRIPTION

Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

In our research group, you will find a unique opportunity to work closely with top researchers in the borderland between psychology and neuroscience to jointly try to understand human cognition on a neural level. We offer an engaging and international research environment where you get an opportunity to contribute to high-quality research at an international top level.

Your mission

The project is focused on increased understanding of our working memory, an integral part of flexible cognition. In particular, the underlying mechanisms that lend humans their ability to generalize will be investigated in this interdisciplinary project. The postdoc will conduct multiple studies using network simulations (typically abstract, non-spiking networks like RNNs), to explore this is artificial systems. Part of the studies will be to compare the outcome to human and non-human neural data.

Your profile

Qualified to be employed as a postdoctor is one who has obtained a doctorate or has equivalent scientific competence. It is considered as an advantage if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, if there are special reasons, your degree may have been completed earlier. Applicants who have not completed a doctorate at the end of the application period may also apply, provided that all requirements for a completed degree are met before the (intended) date of employment. This must be substantiated by the applicant's main supervisor, director or equivalent.

To be eligible for the position, you must have completed your doctoral degree in in computational neuroscience/mathematics/computer science or equivalent.

Knowledge and experience in network simulations, in particular with abstract, recurrent networks, is highly meritorious. As is training networks using for instance reinforcement learning. The applicant will be expected to quickly and independently be able to engage in these areas.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the position, emphasis will be put on the candidate’s ability to work and function in a team. Even if focus will be on network simulations experience with analyzing neural data is considered a plus. Prior experience working in teams is very valuable. The position will also entail a lot of independent work, so candidates can ideally demonstrate a history of independent work

Strong background in mathematics (linear algebra and similar) and fluency in English is required.
