We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow in the field of atomistic simulations who is interested in participating of H2020 ERA Chair MATTER in Institute of Technology in University of Tartu! 

ERA Chair MATTER is a Research group at the University of Tartu (UT), Institute of Technology. The formation of the ERA Chair on Materials in Extreme Environments (MATTER) combines three challenging fields of computer simulations, nano-manipulation, and biomedical engineering. MATTER builds on the well-equipped core facilities of UT and establishes synergies with the most influential research infrastructure in Estonia and neighbouring countries for delivering high-level research and innovation. 

ERA Chair MATTER focuses on nanoscale material behaviour in complex environments and upscaling of control of nanomaterial for interdisciplinary and widespread use. We enable breakthrough research in areas such as biomedical applications (nanomedicine, drug delivery, regenerative medicine), renewable energy sources, high electric field applications, high power microwave and radar equipment, materials research, ICT (Information and Communication Technology) and electronics applications, MEMS & NEMS etc. 

ERA Chair in Materials Research in Extreme Environments is part of H2020 Spreading Excellence and Widening Participation H2020-WIDESPREAD-2018-2020 and has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 856705. 

 

Requirements 

PhD in physics, chemistry, materials science, or similar, proven experience in atomistic simulations, especially in ab initio (DFT (Density Functional Theory)) and molecular dynamics (force field) simulations, teaching experience and proven competence on the following and related fields: 

  • Density Functional Theory 

  • Molecular Dynamics (Force Field) simulations 

  • Machine Learning methods 

  • Scientific software development (C/C++, Python, Fortran, Matlab, Bash) 

  • Finite Element Method calculations 

  • Electromagnetism 

  • Internationally recognised professional research. 

 

Tasks 

Development of novel simulation methods, application of machine learning methods to atomistic simulations, simulation of metal surfaces under high electric fields. 

  

Required qualifications 

PhD in Physics, Chemistry, Material Science or in a similar field or an equivalent qualification. 

  

Required language skills 

Excellent English. 

 

Starting at 01.08.2022, temporary contract to 31.03.2024 

Workload 1,00. 

Salary: Competitive and motivating salary based on previous experience.
