The Institute of Measurement Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences offers positions for PhD study in the academic year 2022/2023 in the study program "Applied Mathematics" within the study field "Mathematics". More information on the study program can be found here.

For each topic, one student as maximum can be accepted. The study program is full-time, 4-years, the study language is combined Slovak/English, the student will receive stipendium from the Institute and there is a possibility of accommodation in the facilities of the Slovak Academy of Sciences.

Since 2020 the Institute of Measurement Science of the Slovak Academy of Sciences is an external educational institution of the Faculty of Mathematics, Physics and Informatics, Comenius University in Bratislava. After successful completion of the study, the student will receive PhD degree from the University.

Selection process

The Application form in English recommended by the Ministry of education of Slovakia has to be filled, printed and signed.

Required application enclosures are:

  • Copy of bachelor’s degree diploma (in English)
  • Certified copy of master´s degree diploma (in English) – a student who has not yet completed his/her master’s degree study shall submit Official Confirmation of Study Towards University Degree (in English)
  • Official transcript of completed courses during the master’s study
  • Internationally recognized English language certificate (copy); when applying for the English program
  • Structured CV in English, signed, with higlighted achievements the applicant wishes to receive points for; as listed in the List of points awarded to applicants based on their previous achievements
  • Copy of passport
  • Two academic reference letters in English
  • Motivation letter in English

In the first round, the application form and the enclosures will be checked, in the second round, applicants complying with all requirements will be invited for personal or on-line interviews. The application and selection process is free of charge.

Additional comments

The main objective of the entrance interview for the doctoral study program is to verify the applicant's aptitude, prerequisites and motivation for independent creative activity in science and technology and the level of his / her expertise in the field of the dissertation thesis.

The entrance intreview includes the verification of the applicant´s language skills in English and Slovak.

The entrance interview will take place in person or electronically (in SKYPE or ZOOM).

    Mathematics: Master Degree or equivalent
    Engineering: Master Degree or equivalent
    ENGLISH: Good
    SLOVAK: Basic


- MSc. or equivalent degree in relevant subject area

- One to four year experience in research is advantageous.

- Computer skills: MS Office, Email communication, Data presentation, Programming (MatLab as minimum)
