IRSEEM, the Institute for Research in Embedded Electronic Systems at ESIGELEC / Normandie University near Rouen, France, offers a 36-month PhD position entitled "Optimal Deep-Learning-based Tuning of a Nonlinear Predictive Controller. Application to the Control of an Electric Autonomous Vehicle" from 3 October 2022.
PhD thesis objectives: the first objective will be to demonstrate the possibility to compute the optimal values of the parameters of a nonlinear predictive controller thanks to deep learning while taking desired performance into account. The second objective will be to deduce an original method for adjusting this controller which is simpler to implement than the metaheuristic and analytical methods already published in literature. The third and last objective will be to apply the proposed method to the control of a 4WD SEGWAY RMP mobile robot whose mission is to track different trajectories successively without performance degradation or human intervention.
Funding: HAISCode (Humans and Artificial Intelligence Sharing Control and Decisions) project financially supported by Normandy Region and ANR.
Gross salary per month: around 2 200 €
Additionaly, the PhD student will receive :
- a support for installation (laptop & books): 1 000 €,
- a support for a long stay in another lab, possibly abroad: 1 500 €,
- a support for travelling to conferences: 1 500 €
Travelling to conferences and other expenses will also be supported by IRSEEM and doctoral school MIIS at Normandie University.
