The Institute of Prehistoric and Protohistoric Archaeology at Kiel University is pleased to announce a Researcher assistant position (m/f/d) until September 30, 2023, within the DFG-funded-project "HighStepLands. Holocene socio-cultural-environmental interactions along a highland altitudinal transect of the Zagros Mountains (Kohgiluyeh-e Boyer Ahmad Province, Southwestern Iran)". (PI: Andrea Ricci)
The regular weekly working hours are equal to a full-time employee (currently 38,7 h/week). The salary is based on the German public pay scale (TV-L E 13) if the conditions of the collective agreement are met.
Area of activity:
The HighStepLands project investigates long-term socio-cultural-ecological dynamics and past cultural landscape formation processes in the Zagros Mountains in southwestern Iran. The applicant is expected to support the interdisciplinary HighStepLands project team with her/his expertise.
The post holder will analyze archaeological datasets and correlate them with paleoenvironmental and historical sources in order to reconstruct long term regional population dynamics, identify mobility patterns and detect strategies of local communities to cope with changing ecological and socio-cultural conditions.

Skills/Qualifications
Requirements:
- Master‘s degree in Archaeology, Pre- and Protohistoric Archaeology, or Near Eastern Archaeology,
- Relevant, qualified doctorate, and an excellent track record,
- Excellent knowledge of the archaeology and history of Iran,
- Experience in conducting archaeological fieldwork and in working in interdisciplinary team,
- A focus of previous work should be on the Neolithic, Chalcolithic or Bronze Age periods of Iran or Southwestern Asia,
- Very good knowledge of English,
- Organizational, communication and teamwork skills as well as an independent and responsible approach to work.
- The position requires periods of research in Iran.
Desirable:
- Experience in the use of databases and GIS,
- Good or very good knowledge of Persian,
- Experience with the study of prehistoric lithic stone artefacts,
- International experience (e.g. periods of research or study abroad, international publications) is an advantage.
Candidates will be evaluated on their research and publication record, and their fit of their research background in the project.
