OFFER DESCRIPTION
Talent4BBI call to recruit 11 x ESR’s (PhD) is now open for applications. Call dates are 30th November 2021 - January 31st, 2022. The 11 ESR Positions are a variety of PhD's in areas related to the bioeconomy.
Some Key Aims of the programme are (1)Holistic understanding of the bioeconomy. (2) Connect scientific and technical knowledge (3)Bespoke training with industry facing focus.
The programme brings together a pan-European network of 10 industry and 8 academic partners across 8 Member States and 1 Associated Country. The Early-Stage Researchers (ESRs) will be located in Ireland, Switzerland, Spain, Sweden Netherlands and Belgium depending on position details.
Talent4BBI is a PhD MSCA programme managed by BiOrbic, the Bioeconomy SFI Research Centre located in University College Dublin (UCD), Ireland.

Salary Ranges from €32,508 - €39,399 depending on ESR country location. If applicable a family allowance is also available.
This programme provides a unique opportunity for the ESRs to develop key skills, competencies and experience required by the bio-based industries through a targeted training programme for future bioeconomy leaders.
During the 60-month programme duration, the 11 ESRs will undertake 48 month PhDs co-hosted by industry and academia. Three additional industry partners will actively participate and contribute their expertise through summer and winter school training events.
The programme structure offers a unique opportunity for graduates to thrive in both industrial and academic research settings while also enhancing the ESR’s career opportunities in line with the MSCA COFUND work programme objectives. Talent4BBI’s selection process will be guided by principles of openness, transparency, merit, impartiality, and equality for the ESRs.
Eligibility criteria
All applicants to the programme must meet the eligibility criteria at the closing date of the call – January 31st, 2022. Candidates who wish to apply should be final year undergraduate or should be Master’s students undertaking programmes in science, engineering and bioeconomy who wish to work in industry or perform industry- related research. Skills/Qualifications
Exact experience will vary depending on positions but broadly candidates should possess some or all of the following. BSc or MSc degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Biology, Biochemical Engineering or equivalent; experience in metabolic engineering, systems biology, fermentation, LCA, Bioeconomy.
Strong drive, flexible, result-oriented, fluent in English, intercultural sensitivity are key requirements.
Specific Requirements
- May be of any Nationality.
- The applicants should be in the first 4 years of their research careers (full time equivalent research experience), possess a degree that entitles them to start PhD studies and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree at the deadline of the Talent4BBI programme call
- Mobility Rule - applicants must meet the mobility rule i.e., they may not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the host organisation for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the deadline of the Talent4BBI programme call.
- The applicant must satisfy academic entry and English language requirements of academic institution they wish to enroll in. Please note an applicant must hold a MSc if the host university requires it.
