University Assistant (must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree) for a full-time position at the Institute of Experimental Physics to February 28, 2023

Job Duties:

  • Independently conduct research in the area of synthesis and characterizing mechanoresponsive biohybrid materials, as well as actively take part in the institute’s collaborative research projects
  • Be actively involved in creating a new department at the Institute of Experimental Physics focused on setting up mechanical and spectroscopic methods to support materials characterization
  • Publish scientific findings in international journals and present at conferences
  • Co-supervise students in seminars and tutorials and co-supervise Bachelor’s and Master’s theses
  • Independently teach university-level classes and provide support to manage the department’s administrative tasks

Your Qualifications:

  • The successful candidate must hold a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree in the area of bioinspired biohybrid materials
  • Possess broad methodological experience in the areas of rheology and optical spectroscopy (CD, fluorescence, Raman, FTIR) as well as in the synthesis, chemical modification, purification and characterizing peptides
  • Expertise in the areas of protein and polymer chemistry, polymer physics, single-molecule force spectroscopy and fluorescence microscopy as well as cell mechanics and mechanobiology
  • Experience in independently and responsibly supervising and maintaining equipment
  • Experience in working on international and interdisciplinary projects, particularly with colleagues in the areas of physics, chemistry, biology, and materials science
  • Strong command of German and English (both oral and written, German level B1, English level C1)
