OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION WITHIN THE TERMS LAID DOWN OF THE REGULATIONS FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALGARVE

 

TITLE:

It is now open a call for 1 Research Grant within the project PTDC/HAR-HIS/31599/2017 - TRANSCULTURAL – "História, Arqueologia, Antropo-biogeoquímica da população medieval em Portugal (sécs. X–XIV). Cultura, identidades e interculturalidade descodificadas pelo estudo da dieta e da mobilidade”, funding by Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), to Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização and to Programa Operacional Regional do Algarve, with the following conditions:

 

Research Field: History (Archaeology)

Admission Requirements:

The candidate must have a degree in Cultural Heritage and Archeology or related fields and a curriculum that includes field archaeological experience in medieval contexts and experience in the study of archaeological materials (with a preference for medieval collections in the Algarve with archaeomalacological materials), taking into consideration the of University Of Algarve’s Research Grants Regulation (https://dre.pt/application/file/a/152015732 ).

The applicants must be enrolled in a cycle of studies, preferably at UAlg, conferring an academic degree or in a postgraduate course that does not confer an academic degree.

Work Plan:

  1. Study of a zooarchaeological collection (mostly archeomalacological in nature) from the site of Cacela-a-Velha, which should follow the criteria of modern zooarchaeology (taxonomic determination of specimens, quantification, taphonomic and spatial analysis, ecological characterization, biometric data, photography).
  2. Organization of the zooarchaeological comparison collection of the Archeology Laboratory of the University of Algarve.
  3. Final report of the work carried out (which can take the form of a master's dissertation), where the analytical work developed and the integration of the data obtained in current knowledge on mollusc zooarchaeology in the Medieval Algarve must be presented.

Applicable Legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, approved by the Law nº 40/2004, from 18 of August, conferred by the Decree Law 123/2019, from July 28th and University Of Algarve’s Research Grants Regulation

Working place: The work will be developed at Archeology Laboratory (of the Faculty of Human and Social Sciences, FCHS) and at the CEAACP Hub — Center for the Study of Archeology, Arts and Heritage Sciences of the University of Algarve, jointly with the Researcher Maria João Valente, principal investigator of the SCORE project and coordinator.

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to 835,98 euros. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer. (dre.pt/application/file/a/160312069)

Selection criteria will be as follows:

In accordance with nº2 of the article 11º of the FCT Research Grants Regulation, the selection criteria are the following:

  1. Publications, considering the quality of the publications, the intrinsic quality of the respective scientific content and its relationship with the competition requirements: with the respective valuation of 20%, up to a maximum of 20 points.
  2. Oral or poster presentations at international scientific meetings and conferences, the intrinsic quality of the respective scientific content and its relationship with the competition requirements: with the respective valuation of 20%, up to a maximum of 20 points.
  3. Experience in analytical, academic-scientific works, in the area of ​​zooarchaeology: with the respective valuation of 40%, up to a maximum of 40 points.
  4. Experience in fieldwork in the area of ​​medieval archeology: with the respective valuation of 15%, up to a maximum of 15 points.
  5. Other relevant activities: with the respective valuation of 5%, up to a maximum of 5 points.

In the event of a tie in the candidates' scores, the jury may request an interview (in person or online). In this case, the valuation of the interview, up to a maximum of 20 points, will have a final weight of 30% (the previous score will have a total weight of 70%).

The tender jury shall comprise the following members:

Publication and notification of the results: Final results will be publicized through an ordered list according to the final grade and posted in a conspicuous and public local of Faculty of Human and Social Sciences (FCHS) Building and communicated to the applicants by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.

Deadline for applications and submission forms: the call is open from 25/10/2021 to 08/11/2021.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

  • Official identification document (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you should present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the scholarship start date, any of which may be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous must be delivered at the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the granting of the scholarship;
  • Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken;
  • If the doctorate has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must conform to the rules established in Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be complied with up to the date of termination deadline for submission of the application. If the completed process is not found until the end of the application deadline, the candidate must prove that he / she has requested the recognition of the degree.
  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Passport or identification card for European applicants (copy);
  • Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) or legal equivalent;
  • Other documents considered important.

Grant contract Documents

- Supporting documents stating that the applicant gathers all the requirements for this grant, namely the enrolment certificate in an awarding degree study cycle or in a postgraduate course;

- Supervisor Declaration taking the responsibility for the Work plan supervision, according to article 5º-A of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, as well as assuring the necessary conditions for the development of the work plan and in compliance with article 13 º of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow;

- Declaration of the Grant acceptance;

- Declaration of commitment stating the exclusivity regime.

Complaints and Appeal Deadlines and procedures

On the decision for granting the Research Grant, candidates may, if they wish, comment on the hearing of interested parties, within 10 working days, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.

From the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation panel, candidates can complain to the body, within 10 working days.

The final decision of the evaluation panel can be appealed to the Rector within 15 working days after the respective notification.

Scholarship contractWith the applicant(s) selected, and after receiving all the required documentation, a scholarship contract will be signed in accordance with the attached model.Assessment of the scholarship holder(s)At the end of each period of duration of the scholarship contract, the activity developed by the scholarship holder(s) is evaluated by the supervisor, by applying the following criteria, in accordance with the attached model:

  1. Quality of the analytical work of the zoo-archaeological collection, according to the criteria expressed above;
  2. Organization of the zoo-archaeological comparison collection of the Archeology Laboratory of the University of Algarve;
  3. Quality of the final report, which can take the form of a master's thesis.

University of the Algarve reserves the right to cancel this application procedure if by any means the contract celebration with the funding entity is not established.
