OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Institute

The Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) is an international biomedical research institute of excellence, based in Barcelona, Spain, with more than 400 scientists from 44 countries. The CRG is composed by an interdisciplinary, motivated and creative scientific team which is supported both by a flexible and efficient administration and by high-end and innovative technologies.

In April 2021, the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG) received the renewal of the 'HR Excellence in Research' Award from the European Commission. This is a recognition of the Institute's commitment to developing an HR Strategy for Researchers, designed to bring the practices and procedures in line with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers (Charter and Code).

The role

We have been recently awarded a CaixaResearch Grant from Fundació laCaixa, in collaboration with the group of Paco Real (CNIO, Madrid), to study splicing regulatory circuits relevant for bladder and pancreatic cancer, which are altered by mutation of the RNA binding protein RBM10.

We are seeking a motivated postdoc to carry out an interdisciplinary, highly collaborative project aimed at identifying splicing alterations in bladder and pancreatic cancer that contribute to tumour progression and use this knowledge to design novel therapeutic approaches.

About the lab

The group of Juan Valcárcel studies alternative splicing and its impact on cancer progression, aiming to use this knowledge for the design of novel therapeutic approaches in oncology. We combine high-throughout, functional genomics, cell biology, biochemistry and structural biology to understand molecular mechanisms of splice site selection and their alterations in cancer cells. We are contributing to the development of novel cancer therapies based upon the use of splicing-modifying antisense oligonucleotides and small molecule modulators of the spliceosome.
