OFFER DESCRIPTION

                                                         Postdoctoral Fellow

                                     Mitochondrial physiology and lipid diversity

We are looking for a motivated and creative scientist to join our Biochemical Genetics team (@KellerLab) at the Medical University of Innsbruck as a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow (funded by the Austrian Research Council, FFG, together with OROBOROS Instruments, Innsbruck).

RESEARCH FOCUS

Mitochondria perform essential cellular functions and play pivotal roles in cellular signalling and energy production. Many of these processes are highly dependent on the constitution of the mitochondrial membranes. The core aim of this project is to examine the interdependency and regulatory potential of mitochondrial membrane lipid states with its functional and respirometric consequences. The successful candidate will employ biochemical and molecular techniques coupled with advanced lipidomic analyses in order to investigate the interrelationship between mitochondrial membrane architecture and function in detail. For background information we recommend reading: Oemer et al. 2021 (10.1016/j.jlr.2021.100111), Oemer and Koch et al. 2020 (10.1016/j.celrep.2020.02.115) and Oemer et al. 2018 (10.1073/pnas.1719407115).

YOUR PROFILE

  • PhD in Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related fields.
  • Keen interest in mitochondrial physiology.
  • Strong background in biochemistry and molecular biology.
  • Documented productivity (e.g. in the form of published research).
  • Ability to think independently and critically, excellent communication and teamwork skills, and an enthusiasm for learning and developing new directions.

WE OFFER

You will be part of a young and dynamic team where your ideas and contributions matter. This position gives you the opportunity to do meaningful work in a welcoming work environment with an open door policy. This includes access to cutting-edge technical equipment and modern research facilities. The Medical University of Innsbruck offers various social benefits and the city of Innsbruck as well as its surroundings are an extremely pleasant place to live. The minimum gross salary is regulated according to the collective agreement (Par. 49 UG, Gehaltsgruppe B1; EUR 55.242,60 per year).

YOUR APPLICATION

Applications consisting of a CV detailing previous academic achievements, a motivational statement, and the names and contact details of two referees should be addressed to Ass.-Prof. Dr. Markus A. Keller at humgen@i-med.ac.at (Reference code: PD-21-014014A)
