OFFER DESCRIPTION

A position is now open for the attribution of a Research Scholarship for a Graduate (Article 6º of RBI) in the scope of the FLEXMICRODERM project entitled “Development of flexible microdevices based on composite biocement microneedles for transdermal drug administration”, [FCT project n.º 029274 – IC&DT Project – AAC No. 02/SAICT/2017] supported by the budgets of the Competitiveness and Internationalization Operational Program, in its FEDER component, and of the Foundation for Science and Technology, in its State Budget component, in the following conditions:

The scholarship will have the purpose of implementing and developing the following activities

1) Technical-scientific support for the execution of experimental work in the evaluation of microdevice implantation in an ex vivo model (histopathological analysis);

2) Support in the organization and execution of a pre-clinical evaluation of the safety and effectiveness of the implantation of a microdevice as a controlled drug delivery system in an in vivo rodent model;

3) Preparation of reports on the activities carried out that will help in the final report of the project.

Generic Scientific Area: Veterinary Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or similar areas.

Recipients profile:

- Bachelor's degree (Veterinary Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or similar areas);

- Frequency of a Master degree (Veterinary Sciences, Biomedical Sciences or similar areas);

- Preference will be given to candidates with experience in research activities, namely histopathology and in vivo models.

If the qualification has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, it will have to be recognized by a Portuguese higher education institution, pursuant to the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of 16 August, which approves the legal regime for the recognition of academic degrees and diplomas in Higher Education, awarded by foreign higher education institutions, and paragraph e) of paragraph 2 of article 4 of Decree-Law No. 60/2018, of 3 August, any formalities established therein must be fulfilled by the date of the contracting act.

Work plan

The scholarship holder will perform the following tasks:

- Support in the preparation and analysis of histological tissue samples;

- Support in the preparation and implementation of topical microdevice implantation in an in vivo rodent model;

- Analysis of systemic drug distribution by chromatography.

Scholarship period:

The scholarship has a duration of 12 months, non-renewable, on an exclusive basis, according to the Research Scholarship Regulations of the Foundation for Science and Technology, I.P. into force, starting in November 2021 and ending in October 2022. The value of the scholarship will not increase throughout its duration.

Applicable legislation and regulations: Statute of Scientific Research Fellows, as amended by Decree-Law No. 123/2019, of 28 August; Regulation No. 950/2019, of November 29, published in Diário da República, No. 241, Series 2, of December 16 (Research Scholarship Regulations of FCT, IP); Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of August 16 (Legal regime for recognition of academic degrees and higher education diplomas awarded by foreign higher education institutions).

Workplace: The work will be developed mainly at the Vasco da Gama Research Center (CIVG), at the Vasco da Gama University School (EUVG), whose founding entity is the Associação Cognitária Vasco da Gama (ACVG), under the scientific guidance of Professor Pedro Carvalho.

Monthly maintenance subsidy amount: The scholarship amount corresponds to € 835.98, according to the table of monthly maintenance subsidy values, established by the FCT, I.P. (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores), payment being made monthly by bank transfer.

Selection methods:

Phase 1: Curriculum evaluation (80%) and motivation letter (20%). The evaluation will focus on the following parameters: Candidate's merit (40%), adequacy of the Curriculum Vitae to the activities to be developed considering previous experience in the area of the proposed activities (40%) and the candidate's motivation expressed in the motivation letter (20%).

Phase 2: The 3 best applications from phase 1 (which will have a value of 50%), will proceed to the next phase, consisting of an interview (which will have a value of 50%). The interview will be weighted as follows: Communication skills, argumentation and counter-argumentation (25%) and technical and scientific knowledge (25%).

In case the selected scholarship holder withdraws, the second candidate from the ordered list of candidates will be automatically selected, and so on, until the candidates presented are exhausted.

Deadline for application and form of submission of applications: The application is open from the 12th of October to the 23nd of October 2021, with applications being admitted only within the established deadline.

- Diplomas or qualification certificates mentioned in the CV;

- Proof of enrollment in progress;

- Other documents considered relevant to the selection process.

Form of advertising/notification of results: The final results of the evaluation will be publicized through a ordered list by final grade, posted on the University's website, within a maximum period of 10 working days after the final date of application submission, and the selected candidate notified by email, with a period of 10 working days being set for the purpose of prior hearing of interested parties, as provided for in the Code of Administrative Procedure. At the end of the period established for hearing interested parties and, in the absence of any response from them, the list of candidates will become definitive. From the final decision, candidates may file a complaint within 15 working days, or appeal to the highest executive body of the funding entity within 30 working days after notification of the final decision, in accordance with the provisions of article 12 of the Regulation of Research Grants of the Foundation for Science and Technology.
