Research Scholarship for Bachelor Degree (Licenciatura)
 
Summary: A research position for 1 (one) Research Grant ("Bolsa de Licenciado") is open at Instituto de Geografia e Ordenamento do Território, within the project For more mobility and accessibility friends of the elderly in urban areas, (PTDC/GES-TRA/32121/2017), funded by national funds through FCT/MCTES (PIDDAC).

Admission Requirements: 
Graduates in Human Geography, Territory Planning and Management or related fields, who are enrolled in a master's program of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning may apply to this call.
 
The candidate must:
  • Have a degree in Human Geography, Territory Planning and Management, or related fields;
  • Be enrolled in the Master's program at IGOT-ULisboa;
  • Ability to acquire and manage alphanumeric information;
  • ​​Ability to code surveys and organize databases;
  • Ability to use statistical software, including SPSS, and carry out multivariate data analysis;
  • Ability to use geographic information systems software,namely ArcGis;
  • Ability to develop spatial modeling exercises;
  • Availability to travel to the areas where the field work will be developed.
Eligibility of candidates
Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions provided for in article 9 of the FCT IP Research Grant Regulation (Regulation No. 950/2019, published in Diário da República, 2nd series, no. 241 on December 16th, 2021).
 
Project Summary:
The general objective of the GRAMPCITY project is to develop knowledge about the daily mobility of elderly people living in urban areas and realizing that way these characteristics can affect your sense of well-being. You specific objectives of this project are to discuss the concepts associated with aging in urban areas, associating them with trends in the evolution of urban areas and the definition of policy objectives; analyze daily patterns mobility of the elderly, associating them with individual characteristics and built environment; evaluate your living spaces; analyze if your mobility patterns affect your well-being and your sense of life; and identify how public policies can contribute to the promotion inclusion of older people, their mobility and contributing to overcome the limitations arising from the urban environment (PTDC/GES-TRA/32121/2017
 
Work objectives:
The work plan of the scholarship holder to be hired is as follows:
  1.  Collection of alphanumeric, vector and matrix information;
  2. Encoding and processing of inquiries;
  3. Statistical treatment and cartographic representation of results;
  4. Spatial analysis of information;
  5. Support for field work and support for bibliographic collection.

"Estatuto do Bolseiro de Investigação"; "Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P." -  in its actual redaction, and "Regulamento de Bolsas de Investigação da Universidade de Lisboa" - in its actual redaction.
 
Place of work:
The work will be developed at the Center for Geographical Studies of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning of the University of Lisbon, under the scientific guidance of Prof. Doctor Nuno Marques da Costa.
 
Duration: 6 months. The scholarship contract may eventually be renewed.
 
Start date: scheduled to start in November 2021, on an exclusive basis.
 
Monthly salary: 835,98€ according to the table of grant amounts awarded directly by FCT for positions held in Portugal (www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores ).
 
Selection criteria:
Curriculum evaluation (CE) comprises the following parameters:
  • Graduation classification (45%);
  • Curriculum analysis and experience in the scope of GIS (35%);
  • Collaborations on projects, candidate motivation and availability to the performance of tasks within the project (15%);
  • Level of fluency and rigor in written expression, in Portuguese and English, which can be assessed on the basis of certification documents(5%).
The jury may, if it deems it necessary, call the candidates placed in the first 3 positions for an interview. In this case, the interview has a weight of 30%, added to the score obtained in the first selection phase, which will have a weight of 70%. The interview will take place at a date and time to be communicated to the candidates in due course.
The jury may not award any scholarship if the candidates do not correspond to the desired profile.

The selection panel for the applications for this scholarship is composed of the following elements:
  • President of the Jury: Nuno Marques da Costa, Associate Professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning;
  • 1st Effective Member: Paulo Alexandre Morgado de Sousa, Assistant Professor of
  • Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning;
  • 2nd Effective Member: Alina Esteves, Assistant Professor at the Instituto de Geografia and Territorial Planning;
  • 1st Alternate Member: Eduarda Marques da Costa, Associate Professor of the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning;
Results
 
The final results of the evaluation will be communicated to the candidates through notification sent to the email address indicated for this purpose.
If the result is unfavorable to the granting of the requested scholarship, the candidates have a period of 10 working days to comment, if desired, in a prior hearing to the interested parties, pursuant to articles 121 and 122 of the Code of Administrative Procedure (DL nº 4/2015 of January 7th).
The selected candidate must state in writing their intention to accept the scholarship. In case of non-acceptance, the scholarship will be awarded to the candidate in order of final ranking.
 
Application deadline and form of submission of applications: The call is open from 29th of September to 12th of October 2021.

Regarding the qualification certificate, if the degree has been obtained in a foreign institution, it must be recognized by a Portuguese institution in accordance with Decree-Law No. 66/2018, of  August 16th and Ordinance no. 33/2019, of January 25th, in its wording in force on the date of application;
  4. Proof of enrollment in a master's or integrated master's program;
  5. Other supporting documents considered relevant;
  6. Declaration of prior consent by electronic means.
