OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Computational Science and Engineering Group, Center for Mathematical Science and Advanced Technology (MAT), Research Institute for Value-Added-Information Generation (VAiG), Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC), is soliciting applications for a Researcher (Ⅱ) position.

The Computational Science and Engineering Group of MAT is seeking a researcher with relevant academic qualifications and research experience in the fields of geotechnical engineering, disaster prevention, and mechanical design optimization via multiphysics analysis using particle simulation methods. In particular, the successful applicant is expected to contribute to the development of advanced particle simulation methods, such as the discrete element method (DEM) and smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH). The researcher will also study the mechanisms involved in powdering processes and landslides, using newly developed code.

Details of the research conducted by MAT can be found at http://www.jamstec.go.jp/mat/e/

[Research Description]
(1) Improvements in the accuracy, speed, and functionality of particle simulation methods, such as the DEM and SPH.
(2) The development and analysis of particle models relevant to geotechnical hazards, especially landslides.
(3) The development and analysis of particle models relevant to the powder and civil engineering
(4) The development of particle simulation methods allowing analysis of the multiphase flows of granular materials and fluids.

Applicants who can contribute to multiple research themes are welcome to apply. The successful applicant is expected to have experience in the particle simulation research topics listed below, but applicants are also welcome if they are willing to explore further, establish new fields of research, and/or challenge existing particle method assumptions.

[Relevant Research Fields]
Computational Mechanics, Powder Engineering, Civil Engineering, Earthquake Engineering, Computer Science
