Opening for a tenure-track assistant professor. Under the tenure-track system, the employment period (tenure-track period) is 5 years from the employment date. The successful candidate must be recognized for their outstanding academic capabilities after undergoing an interim evaluation in the third year and a tenure qualification review in the fifth year, to be granted tenure status (permanent employment) and promotion to associate professor. The successful tenure-track assistant professor who achieves exceptional contributions in their area of expertise will be granted an expedited review process for achieving tenure status without waiting for the above-mentioned period.

Discrete Algorithms and Big-Data Theory: e.g., graph-network algorithms; approximation, randomized, sublinear-time, streaming, or online algorithms; complex networks; data structures; mathematical programming; computational complexity; etc. Applicants who study in the above fields from the viewpoint of theoretical computer science are preferable.

1) Term of employment (tenure-track period):
The tenure-track period will last 5 years from the start of employment. The successful candidate must be recognized for their outstanding academic capabilities after undergoing an interim evaluation in the third year and a tenure qualification review in the fifth year, to be granted tenure status (permanent employment) and promotion to associate professor. In case tenure is not granted at the 5th year, up to a maximum of 2 more years of non-tenure-track employment period can be added, which would serve as a preparatory period to look for outside opportunities. 4) Work hours: Discretionary Labor System for Professional Work
Based on standard work hours of 7 hours and 45 minutes during 8:30am-5:15pm, an individual employee may decide how his/her schedule will fit into work day.
5) Salary:Annual salary based on the UEC Employee's Salary Regulation
6) Research fund:The assistant professor's research expenses according to the university rule.
7) Paid holidays: Annual paid holidays, special leave, childcare leave, and nursing care leave
8) Insurances: Health insurance/pension (the Monbukagakusho Mutual-Aid Association insurance), employment insurance, and worker's compensation insurance
