Offer Description

The department of Water Management is actively looking for an assistant (or associate) professor in the applied field "industry water". Industry is a large water consumer world-wide, and the largest in the Netherlands. To advance the science field in water treatment, water supply, reclamation and recycling for industrial applications, we want to strengthen our staff with a water treatment engineer, specialised in the field of “physicochemical processes in industry water”. The potential candidate has good knowledge on (advanced) membrane-based separation techniques, electro-chemical techniques, advanced oxidation processes and related topics.

The water quality of industry water ranges from ultrapure to extremely concentrated and possibly hazardous. Where the production of ultrapure water is a challenge in clean water supply, the treatment and reuse of process effluents calls for clever separation techniques and specific conversion processes. Novel techniques will be aimed at water and resource recovery from industrial streams to increase sustainability and circularity in the industrial sector.

Within this field of research, the successful candidate will be given the opportunity to develop an own research line, complementing the research activities in our department.

The key job responsibilities of the new colleague include:

  • Research: Delivering high quality, internationally leading research related to physicochemical treatment processes applied to source water, process water and residual water. (Co-)supervising PhD and MSc thesis students. Disseminating research outcomes effectively via internationally leading journals and conferences.
  • Education: Organizing and contributing to the development and teaching of graduate courses in our new MSc programme Environmental Engineering, supervision of BSc and MSc thesis students, preparing and assessing student projects, assignments and exam papers.
  • Utilisation: Initiating projects and obtaining funding for new research and/or education projects. We encourage active engagement with both private and government sectors, i.e. industry, business and community partners for societal impact.
  • Organization: Contributing to organizational / administrative activities and committees within the Department of Water Management and the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences.

Requirements

Specific Requirements

You have a drive to innovate through research-based solutions as well as the capacity to effectively communicate with internal and external stakeholders. You possess a PhD degree in environmental/water engineering or related area and expertise in physicochemical separation techniques, such as membrane-based processes and/or advanced oxidation processes.

You have an inspiring personality, with the capacity to create lasting and effective connections between researchers in other groups inside and outside TU Delft, and act as a driver for the further development of physicochemical techniques for efficient water use in industrial processes. An ambition for acquiring external funding is required.

Teaching of MSc students and PhD candidates will form part of your duties. The ability and willingness to acquire a university teaching qualification is therefore necessary. You feel comfortable in industrial and institutional settings and are able to represent TU Delft – jointly with colleagues - in the national and international research community.
