OFFER DESCRIPTION

Postdoctoral Position in Structural Biology

Dr. Jakub Gruszczyk team is looking for a talented Postdoctoral Fellow with an experience in protein crystallography and/or single particle cryo-electron microscopy. The researcher will contribute their expertise to support ongoing collaborative projects aiming at structural and biochemical characterisation of the aryl hydrocarbon receptor-dependent signalling pathway. The Postdoctoral Fellow will be involved in managing their own independent research project within the main research focus areas of the host team.

Your responsibilities

  • Preparation of DNA constructs for protein production in different expression systems
  • Heterologous protein expression using bacterial, insect and mammalian cells
  • Protein purification using Akta chromatography system
  • Protein crystallisation, diffraction data collection and structure solution
  • Cryo-EM sample preparation, single particle cryo-EM data collection, 3D reconstruction, map refinement and model building
  • Development of biochemical and biophysical assays to validate structural data
  • Preparation of manuscripts for publication
  • Participation in training interns and students

Your profile

Excellent theoretical knowledge and practical skills in either X-ray crystallography or cryo-EM are required. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in protein crystallography, cryo-EM, biochemistry, protein purification and molecular biology. Proficiency in using different chromatographic techniques is compulsory. Previous experience with large size multi-protein complexes is highly desired. Knowledge of cell culture is a plus. The successful applicant must have a PhD in structural biology and at least two years of Postdoctoral experience in similar position. A proven track record of publications in high quality journals is mandatory. Excellent oral and written English as well as the ability to communicate ideas and work collaboratively as a member of a highly motivated team are essential.

What we offer

Two-year contract and salary commensurate with previous research experience.

The Postdoctoral Fellow will have access to the synchrotron facilities at ESRF and Soleil as well as to Titan Krios microscope through collaboration with University of Leicester, UK.

Place of work

Centre for Structural Biology (CBS) in Montpellier specialises in many different techniques including nuclear magnetic resonance, X-ray crystallography, electron microscopy, advanced fluorescence microscopies and single molecule manipulation. The diversity of the expertise present on the same site, together with the strong network of local, national and international collaborations, allow us to tackle even the most ambitious scientific projects.

Montpellier is situated in the southern France. The city enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with hot and sunny summers and relatively mild winters. The location, including proximity of large cities like Marseille and Barcelona, makes Montpellier an exciting place to live and work.
