The Data and information Technology Development Group (DiG) of the Global Oceanographic Data Center (GODAC) (Deputy Director: Akira Sonoda); the Research Institute for Value-Added-Information Generation (VAiG); and the Japan Agency for Marine-Earth Science and Technology (JAMSTEC) together solicit applications for a Researcher (Ⅱ) or Research Technician position.
The Data and information Technology Development Group (DiG) of the Global Oceanographic Data Center (GODAC) and the Research Institute for Value-Added-Information Generation (VAiG) are collaborating in terms of research on, and development of, a Value-Added Information Creation System that meets various needs and that will be made widely available to all who are interested.
We seek a Researcher (Ⅱ) or a Research Technician who will be involved in the development and implementation of essential infrastructures (data connection APIs and other tools) facilitating data inflow from existing information systems. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of the Value-Added Information Creation System via active connection with research institutions in Japan and elsewhere.

※Researcher (Technology) is expected to conduct fundamental, originative, or advanced technology development and related research.
Researcher (Ⅱ) is expected independently to conduct research and technology development and to share results through scientific publications and achieve technology innovation.
Research Technician is expected to promote fundamental or comprehensive technological improvements related to research and development, maintain and upgrade these advanced technologies, and conduct research.
Research Technician is expected to contribute to the promotion of research and development by accumulating expertise in observing devices and analytical instruments, etc. as a specialist in maintaining and operating basic technologies related to the organization's research and development efforts.
*There may be a change in affiliation in the case of reorganization of the Agency.

Period of employment is from December 1, 2021 to March 31, 2026
*One contract period is a maximum of five fiscal years. The contract period will not be renewed.
Period of employment is from December 1, 2021 to March 31, 2024
*One contract period is a maximum of three fiscal years. The contract period will be renewed but the total contract period is maximum five fiscal years (until March 31, 2026).
*Effective date of employment is negotiable. However, it might be changed due to the influence of COVID-19 expansion.
*In accordance with JAMSTEC bylaws, on reaching the age of 65 during an employed fiscal year, the contract period will expire at the end of the same fiscal year. This bylaw may change.
*After undergoing an evaluation during the period of employment, the contract may be modified to one without termination (termination of employment would be at the end of the fiscal year in which the employee reaches the age of 60, or the age of 65 if the employee is rehired after his/her retirement). Annual salary (paid in 1/12 equal monthly payments)

*Salary will be competitive in accordance with JAMSTEC bylaw, based on the academic qualifications and demonstrated research skills of the applicant.
*Bonus and retirement allowance are included in the annual salary.
