PUBLIC NOTICE

Title: COMPETITION FOR GRANTING ONE SCHOLARSHIP – POSTDOCTORAL RESEARCH – 8/2021

A tender is open for the attribution of one Postdoctoral Research Scholarship within the scope of the R&D Unit “Center for Mathematics and Applications” (CMA) (UI/297/2020), financed by national funds of the “Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia, I.P.” (ref. UIDP/00297/2020 and UIDB/00297/2020) (OE) through national funds (PIDDAC). This international call for hiring a postdoctoral scholarship is under the funding of UIDP/00297/2020 which can be changed to UIDB/00297/2020 with the prior approval of FCT through an amendment to the fellowship contract, under the following conditions:

  1. Scientific Area:

Mathematics with specialization in Algebra and Combinatorics or Logic and Computer Science, with emphasis on Computation.

  1. Recipients profile/category:

 

Mandatory requirements:

Candidates holding a PhD degree in Mathematics or related areas of interest to the project may apply to this competition.

The registration and/or recognition in Portugal of the doctoral degree will be verified at the time of signing the contract under the provisions of article 25 of Decree-Law no. 66/2018, of 16 August.

Applicants must have completed in the last 3 years, before the application submission date, the PhD.

(Candidates admitted to BIPD attribution competitions, among other requirements, cannot exceed with the conclusion of the fellowship contract of the competition in question, including the renewals provided for in the notice, a cumulative period of three years in this type of fellowship, followed or In order to measure this assumption, the ownership of this type of scholarship awarded under Regulation No. 950/2019, of December 16, and BPD awarded in the previous regulatory period, financed directly or indirectly by the FCT.)

Preferred factors: Experience in the area of Computation.

  1. Work Plan:

Scientific collaboration with the members of the Center for Mathematics and Applications (CMA) mainly with the members of the Algebra and Logic working group. The successful candidate will have to take an active part in the research activities of the working group of CMA in Algebra and Logic. Candidates should present a work plan related to the research topics developed in the research sub-area of CMA, Algebra and Logic and indicate the name(s) of CMA researcher(s) with whom they plan to develop the work plan.   1. Workplace:

The work is to be carried out at the facilities of the Center for Mathematics and Applications (CMA), hosted at the Department of Mathematics, located in Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia, Universidade Nova de Lisboa (FCT-NOVA), under the scientific guidance of the Professor João Araújo, who may then delegate the supervision to another researcher of CMA, being the entity contracting NOVA.id.FCT – Association for Innovation and Development of FCT.

  1. Fellowship duration:

The fellowship is for an initial period of 12 months, scheduled to start in October 2021. The scholarship contract may eventually be renewed within the term of the project.

  1. Monthly maintenance allowance amount:

The scholarship amount corresponds to €1,646, based on the table of scholarships awarded directly by FCT, I.P. in the country, with payment made monthly by bank transfer.

Other components can be added to the scholarship in accordance with the NOVA.id.FCT Scholarship Regulation.

  1. Selection criteria:

The selection criteria and their respective weighting shall be as follows:

a. CV (grade from 1 to 20) (30%);

b. Motivation letter and recommendation letter (grade from 1 to 20) (15%);

c. Work plan in the research sub-area of CMA, Algebra and Logic (grade from 1 to 20) (15%);

d. Adequacy of the work plan to the topics of research of the research sub-area of CMA, Algebra and Logic (grade from 1 to 20) (20%);

e. Interview (grade from 1 to 20) (20%). The interview will be conducted by videoconference, only for the three candidates with the highest score obtained in the sum of the classifications of criteria a), b), c) and d).

The candidates with less than 75% given by the Jury following the above selection criteria will not be accepted

  1. Composition of the Selection Jury:

Presidente do Júri /President of the Jury: João Araújo, CMA e DM-FCT-UNL.

Membros efetivos do Júri/Effective members of the Jury: Isabel Oitavem, CMA e DM-FCT-UNL e Manuel Silva, CMA e DM-FCT-UNL.

Membros suplentes do Júri/Substitute member of the Jury: Alan Cain, CMA-FCT-UNL e Ana Cristina Casimiro, CMA e DM-FCT-UNL.

 

  1. Form of advertising/notification of results:

The evaluation results proposed by the juri will be notified, up to 90 days after the deadline for the submission of applications, by email, of the results proposed by the jury, with access to the minutes and the provisional ranking list.

After notification, candidates will have 10 working days to comment on the draft decision (prior hearing of interested parties, under the terms of the Code of Administrative Procedure). The final decision will be taken after the expiry of the prior hearing period, again notified to all candidates by e-mail. Of this final decision the candidates can file a complaint within 15 working days (to the e-mail address used for the notification), or an hierarchical appeal, within 30 working days, addressed to NOVA.ID.FCT's Board through the address coord1@novaidfct.pt.

  1. Application deadline and form of application submission:

A tender is open from the 28th of July to the 16th of September 2021.

Documentation to be provided when applying: Applications must be formalized, obligatorily, by sending the following documents in PDF file, written in Portuguese or English:

  1. CV with indication of ORCID reference number;
  2. Motivation letter, including a synopsis of the scientific career;
  3. Work plan (maximum 5 pages);
  4. Doctoral Certificate;
  5. Copies of at most 3 publications representative of the experience of the targeted research area;
  6. A reference letter directly sent by the writer to cma.secretariado@fct.unl.pt, with the subject “Recommendation letter for «CANDIDATE NAME» - Postdoctoral Application – Algebra and Logic
  7. Declaration on honor (according to the draft below).
