Job summary: Opening of a tender for the hiring of ONE PhD holder position to carry out research activities in the areas of Medical and Health Sciences.

1. The Board of Directors of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology of the University of Coimbra (CNC), Portugal, opens an international call for a doctoral post for the carrying out of research activities in the areas of Medical and Health Sciences, under an employment contract with uncertain term but for a period never superior to 10,5 months under the Labor Code, to carry out scientific research under the Strategic Research Program of CNC.

2. Applicable Legislation Decree Law No. 57/2016, of 29th of August, which approved a regime of hiring of PhD holders to stimulate scientific and technological employment in all areas of knowledge (RJEC). Labor Code, approved Law no. 7/2009, of February 12, under its current version.

This position is financed by the Project “Monitoring Neurometabolic Markers in vivo using microelectrode based biosensors” Ref. POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028261 financed under the Tender for Financing Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects in All Scientific Domains - 2017 as provided for in article 18 of the Regulations for Projects Financed Exclusively by National Funds, published in Diário da República, with no. 999/2016, of October 31 (hereinafter RPOE), which establishes the conditions of access and rules for supporting projects financed exclusively by national funds through FCT, IP.

Benefits

The monthly salary is set in accordance with the provisions in RJEC, article 15, no. 1, corresponding to level 33 of the single salary scale approved by Decree no. 1553-C/2008 of the 31st December, at 2134, 73 Euros gross.

Eligibility criteria

Applicants may be Nationals, Foreign and Stateless candidates who hold a doctorate degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related fields. Applicant should hold a scientific and professional curriculum that reveals a profile appropriate to the activity to be developed. If the doctorate degree has been granted by a foreign higher education institution, its recognition as a doctorate in Portugal is mandatory, in compliance with the provisions of the applicable law (vide (DL n. º 66/2018, August 16th; Portaria n. º 33/2019, January 25th) and any formalities there established must be fulfilled in due time and until the deadline of this call.

Selection process

Evaluation is based on the scientific career of candidates. The evaluation of candidate CVs will focus on the scientific publication record, the scientific merit and research capabilities in the areas required for the position. Experience in molecular and cell biology techniques (namely immunohisto/cyto -chemistry), in particular in relation to redox biology, the study of energy neurometabolism, electrochemical methods including oximetry and use of sensors and biosensors. Candidates should have experience using experimental animals (rodents) and Cat. B or C certification for animal experimentation will be valued. Participation in projects in the same field as the current announcement and supervision experience will also be valued.

11.1 Integrated assessment of the scientific trajectory of the candidate. The following items will be evaluated:

1) Consistency and quality of CV (CV)– 50 %; including experience in the fields required for the position.

2) Content and quality of the candidate’s scientific production, notably communications publications in international journals (PC)– 40%. Items such as number and quality of publications (Impact Factor and Quartile of journals) and communications, or citations and student supervisions will be considered.

11.2 – Interview – 10%

Final grade (CF) will be obtained using the following formula: CF = 0.5*CV + 0.4*PC +0.1*E

General admission requirements: Ph.D. Degree Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering or related fields. Good knowledge of English (oral and written)

Specific Requirements

The position has been opened for the carrying out of tasks in the research project “Monitoring Neurometabolic Markers in vivo using microelectrode-based biosensors”, Ref. POCI-01-0145-FEDER-028261, in the Redox Biology and Brain Sensing Group at CNC, namely design and evaluation of micro(bio)sensors for monitoring neurometabolic markers in vivo in the brain of rodents (task 2) and evaluation of the biocompatibility and operational stability of microbiosensors implanted in the brain of rodents (task 3).
