OFFER DESCRIPTION

A call is open for the allocation of 1 (one) research fellowship for PhD students (BI), within the R&D Project "NomaVoy – Nomad Voyager”, co-financed by the Portugal 2020 Program (PT 2020), in the framework of the Regional Operational Program of the Center (CENTRO 2020) and the European Union through the Fundo Europeu de Desenvolvimento Regional (FEDER), taking place at the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã (Portugal).

Scientific Area: Computer Science Engineering

Objectives and work plan:

The work plan includes scientific and technological research tasks carried out to research on software engineering in the context of Offender Management Systems. Particularly, the selected candidate will participate in the development of the following tasks: (1) research and development into the framework of the predictive algorithms; (2) test and proof of concept of the developed solutions; (3) elaboration of scientific reports and articles and dissemination of the results in national and international scientific events and (4) cooperation in the development of scientific projects proposals and grants.

Workplace and Scientific supervision:

The work will be developed at the ALLab - Assisted Living Computing and Telecommunications Laboratory, Department of Computer Science of the University of Beira Interior, Covilhã, Portugal, under the scientific supervision of Doctor Nuno Manuel Garcia dos Santos (ngarcia@di.ubi.pt).

Fellowship duration and conditions:

The scholarship is expected to start in August 2021 and end on 30/06/2023 (date of conclusion of the project).

The activity will take place on an exclusive dedication basis, according to the RBIUBI.

The fellowship can be renewed, with a favorable opinion from the supervisor, if the project end date is extended, at most until the end of the extension period or up to a maximum of 30 months.

Benefits:

A monthly maintenance allowance will be granted in accordance with the Annex I of the RBIUBI, with the amount of € 1104.64 according to the updated values that can be consulted at https://www.fct.pt/apoios/bolsas/valores.

The fellowship holder will have a personal accident insurance and can choose to be covered by the voluntary social insurance. These values will be added to the amount of monthly maintenance allowance.

The monthly amount shall be rendered payable via bank transfer to an account held by the grantee.

Eligibility criteria

Requirements for admission and hiring:

- Hold an MSc degree in computer science engineering or equivalent and meet the conditions to be enrolled in a cycle of studies leading to a doctorate degree (PhD) in Computer Science;

- Special relevance will be given to the candidates with experience in research and development on predictive algorithms. A proven track record in programming is a plus.

 

The proof of registration in a cycle of studies leading to the PhD degree is required for the fellowhip contractualization.

Selection process

The selection methods to be used will be composed by 2 evaluation phases, according to the following: 1st phase - Curricular evaluation; 2nd phase – Interview, which can be performed via videoconference.

The evaluation in the 1st phase includes the following criteria: Curriculum vitae/Academic evaluation (40%); Suitability of the candidates’ profile to the project based on the relevant work experience in the tasks described in the work plan (40%); Fluency in oral and written English (20%).

The 3 candidates that present the highest scores after the 1st phase will pass to the 2nd phase.

For the final evaluation, each of the evaluation phases have an assessment of 50%.

Publication/notification of results:

The final results of the evaluation process will be published in a sorted list, by the final classification obtained, and posted in a visible and public place of the Computer Science Department of the University of Beira Interior. The candidate(s) will be notified of the decision by e-mail.

Complaint and Appeal Procedures:

After communication of the provisional lists of the results in the different phases of the selection process (Admission and Exclusion, Curricular Evaluation and Interview), the candidates have 10 working days to pronounce their disagreement, under the terms of article 121 and the Código do Procedimento Administrativo. If any allegations are presented, the final decision will be issued after the analysis of the statements presented during the prior hearing of interested parties. After the statutory deadline of 10 working days, the proposal for the final classification and ranking of the candidates becomes definitive.
