CALL FOR MEDIUM-LEVEL RESEARCH SUPPORT TECHNICIAN

There is a need to incorporate a medium-level research support technician to provide help with audiovisual assistance and management for the research project on political iconography in the public sphere within the framework of the project ‘Mutations in Visual Motives in the Public Sphere. Power structure representations in Spain 2017-21: the pandemic, climate change, gender identities and racial conflicts’.

Source of funding: Project PID2021-126930OB-I00 under the National Plan for Innovative, Technical and Scientific Research 2021-2023 (National Research Agency – Ministry of Science and Innovation) ‘Mutations in Visual Motives in the Public Sphere. Power structure representations in Spain 2017-21: the pandemic, climate change, gender identities and racial conflicts’.

General duties to be carried out

• Support with compiling and building the analysis sample (around 30,000 images, including newspaper front pages and television news bulletins). Organisation and management of the corpus sample.
• Management and transcription of interviews with professionals from the various sectors converging in representations in the public sphere.
• Management of image reproduction rights for dissemination of the results.
• Support in preparation of the toolkits, set up and post-production of the visual tests and videos comprising the research output.
• Management of the research materials on the website or other online channels (content editing/social media/further definition).
• Support for publication and release of the book.
• Support for preparation and putting on an exhibition to showcase the outcomes.

Eligibility requirements

• Medium or higher level university qualification in the field of communication.
• Knowledge of the Catalan and Spanish languages to advanced level (C1-CEFR, Common European Framework of Reference) and of English (B2.2 or higher).

The following will be seen as an advantage

• Professional knowledge of audiovisual post-production and editing software.
• Experience with support for audiovisual project management.
• Experience with preparing toolkits and educational materials.
• Knowledge of the audiovisual essay.
• Experience in educational broadcasting based on project methodologies.
• Professional knowledge of Adobe Première.
• Experience in the sphere of iconography study.

Details of the vacancy

• Incorporation: March 2023.
• Category: medium-level research support technician.
• Assigned body: UPF Poblenou Campus – Management and Administration Unit (UGA) for Communication.
• Contract type: open-ended as envisaged in RD 32/2021 of 28 December 2021.
• Envisaged duration: until 31/08/2025 due to project completion.
• Hours: 12.5 hours per week on a part-time basis.
• Approximate gross monthly remuneration: 794.36 euros.

Selection criteria and procedure

Competences and merits to be taken into consideration when assessing the candidate: 

1. Academic background: 0-30 points.
2. Professional experience/suitability for the suggested profile: 0-60 points.
3. Other merits: 0-10 points.

The selection process will involve an assessment of the documentation submitted by candidates according to the selection criteria stated plus an interview, if required.

Selection committee

Selection committees shall operate in line with the regulations governing remote delivery of sessions of the corporate bodies of Pompeu Fabra University (Resolution of the Board of Governors of 9 December 2020), whereby sessions must always be held synchronously. For all aspects not envisaged in this regulation, application shall be given to Act 26/2010, of 3 August, on the legal system and procedure of the public administrations of Catalonia, notwithstanding the basic provisions laid down in article 17 of Act 40/2015, of 1 October, on the legal system of the public sector.

The presence of candidates shall be guaranteed at sessions in which they are required to take part and at least the secretary of the committee shall also be present. If a candidate has certified that their address is outside Catalonia or that there are circumstances justifying their absence, they may ask the committee secretary to take part remotely. The secretary may agree to this provided it does not affect participation on an equal footing between all candidates when doing tests or with regard to the assessments the committee is required to conduct.
