OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Ontology Engineering Group of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Informáticos of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is one of the groups officially recognized by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and is currently ranked third in the classification of research groups of the UPM. The group conducts research in the areas of Ontological Engineering, Semantic Web and Linked Data, Natural Language Processing, Semantic e-Science and the Future Internet. It has also developed applications in a wide range of fields, including knowledge management, smart cities, environmental applications, e-commerce, job search and funding, multimedia library management, etc.

Work to be carried out

The objectives of the work to be carried out are:

  1. Definition of architectures for decentralized interoperable service systems
  2. Development of semantic interoperability components in decentralized environments
  3. Development of data federation, validation and data privacy services
  4. Participation in tasks related to standardization
  5. Development of proofs of concept
  6. Operation and maintenance of the implemented architecture components

Profile Requested

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher working in the research line on semantic interoperability through the Web of Things paradigm in decentralized and distributed scenarios with a focus on privacy. The successful candidate will be expected to take on both research and development tasks.

Benefits

The financial allocation of the contract will be an annual gross salary of €33,780.60.

The contract will be offered for an initial period of one year, extendable for at least another two years.

The person will become part of a team working in the Ontology Engineering Group, being part of the European H2020 AURORAL project team and collaborating with members of the OEG.

The person will work in an international, diverse, and inclusive environment, enhancing his/her career as needed (training, mobility, etc.).

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher working in the research line on semantic interoperability through the Web of Things paradigm in decentralized and distributed scenarios with a focus on privacy. The successful candidate will be expected to take on both research and development tasks.

Specific Requirements

The person must have a research profile to work in the field of semantic interoperability from distributed data sources using linked data and semantics. Knowledge of the Internet of Things, the Web of Things paradigm, federated queries, data and service discovery, privacy, and policy expression languages (ODRL) would be an asset.

The person must have a developer profile with experience and autonomy in the design and development of REST APIs and/or microservices. For the development of these, the person should be an expert in at least one programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, Go, ...) and have knowledge of one or more development frameworks for this kind of services (Spark Java, Spring, Django, Flask, ...). Knowledge of web technologies (HTTP/s), alternative protocols (XMPP, MQTT, COAP, DNSN, SSE, Web Sockets, ...), IoT standards (WoT, FIWARE, oneM2M), standards and technologies for privacy (ODRL, SOLID), and minimum knowledge to secure these services (JWT, Oauth) will be a plus. Knowledge of Git, OpenAPI (Swagger), and Docker would also be an asset.

Experience with semantic technologies such as RDF, RDF Schema, SPARQL, and Linked Data is a must, especially in federation. Knowledge in new technologies related to data decentralization and communication (IPFS, Hyperledger Besu) will be an asset.

Teamwork skills, initiative, flexibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a multinational and multidisciplinary team will be an asset.
