OFFER DESCRIPTION

The Ontology Engineering Group of the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Informáticos of the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is one of the groups officially recognized by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and is currently ranked third in the classification of research groups of the UPM. The group conducts research in the areas of Ontological Engineering, Semantic Web and Linked Data, Natural Language Processing, Semantic e-Science and the Future Internet. It has also developed applications in a wide range of fields, including knowledge management, smart cities, environmental applications, e-commerce, job search and funding, multimedia library management, etc.

Work to be carried out

The objectives of the work to be carried out are:

  1. Development of connectors for the integration of data infrastructures (including IoT data)
  2. Creation of knowledge graphs from decentralized data sources
  3. Development of services on knowledge graphs to support machine learning tasks
  4. Development of services on knowledge graphs to support data validation and quality assurance
  5. Use of knowledge graphs in value-added services such as data portals or data marketplaces
  6. Development of proofs of concept
  7. Operation and maintenance of implemented components

Profile Requested

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to research artificial intelligence techniques working on knowledge graphs in the domain of the Internet of Things. The candidate will be expected to undertake both research and development tasks.

Benefits

The financial allocation of the contract will be an annual gross salary of €33,780.60.

The contract will be offered for an initial period of one year, extendable for at least another two years.

The person will become part of a team working in the Ontology Engineering Group, being part of the European H2020 AURORAL project team and collaborating with members of the OEG.

The person will work in an international, diverse, and inclusive environment, enhancing his/her career as needed (training, mobility, etc.).

Profile Requested

We are looking for a postdoctoral researcher to research artificial intelligence techniques working on knowledge graphs in the domain of the Internet of Things. The candidate will be expected to undertake both research and development tasks.

Degree requirements

The person must have a PhD in Computer Science or a related discipline.

Specific Requirements

The person must have a research profile to work in the field of creation and exploitation of knowledge graphs generated from distributed data sources using linked data and semantics. Knowledge of the Internet of Things, data integration, definition of mappings to integrate heterogeneous data sources, validation of knowledge graphs, and machine learning on knowledge graphs and IoT data will be an asset.

The person must have a developer profile with experience and autonomy in the design and development of web services. For the development of these services, the person must know at least one programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript), at least one framework for the development of services, and know the OpenAPI standard. It is also essential that the person has a solid knowledge of semantic technologies such as RDF, RDF Schema, SPARQL, and linked data. Finally, experience in machine learning techniques and frameworks (Scikit Learn, PyTorch, TensorFlow, Weka) is required.

Knowledge of RDF materialisation libraries, SPARQL query rewriting, as well as any technology for translating heterogeneous data into RDF will be an asset. Knowledge of technologies such as Git or Docker will also be an asset. As well as other semantic web related technologies such as SHACL shapes, RDF4J, triple stores, mapping languages (R2RML, RML), etc. In particular, knowledge of Jena and its ARQ modules will be a plus.

Teamwork skills, initiative, flexibility, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work as part of a multinational and multidisciplinary team will be an asset.
