Duties and responsibilities The duties and responsibilities of the successful applicant include, but are not limited to, research, teaching, and administrative tasks. You will conduct independent research focused on firm-level data pursuing a PhD degree. Throughout this process, you will work together with senior faculty members on conducting your research project and writing high-quality essays that will form part of your PhD project. You can expect regular feedback and guidance and mentoring throughout your research from our faculty. Regarding the topic of your research, we offer a good degree of flexibility and autonomy to the successful applicant, however, expect the research projects to be empirical in nature and to fall within the topics covered by Prof. Lindner and his co-authors (global strategy, international finance, and applications of AI to international business research). The successful applicant may also join existing research projects in these areas. In the course of your research projects, you will be in charge of collecting and analyzing firm-level qualitative and quantitative data, including company case studies and larger data sets that will include firm-level data on corporate governance, business strategy, and technology. Some of this data has been already prepared. There will also be a requirement to teach one class in the international management field with a teaching load of two hours per semester starting after the second semester of your employment. Your profile We are looking for applicants with a strong academic record, including a completed relevant Master degree (MSc or equivalent). A specialization in international management, data science, or finance is an asset. For research and teaching purposes we expect you to have excellent oral and written communication skills in English, and at least a working knowledge of German. Prior knowledge of data analysis techniques and software (particularly R) is a plus, but not a must. However, the candidate must be willing to achieve proficiency in such applications over the course of the PhD degree. An ability to work with major firm-level databases and company documents is a key requirement for this role, an understanding of digital technology and digital business models is a plus. Experience with teaching or teaching support in tertiary education is an asset.
