With 6,500 employees in research, teaching and administration and its unique profile, TU Dortmund University shapes prospects for the future. The interaction between engineering and natural science as well as social and cultural studies drives both technological innovations and progress in knowledge and methodology. It is not only the roughly 33,400 students who benefit from this.
The Department of Humanities and Theology comprises the Institutes of Protestant Theology and Catholic Theology as well as a joint Institute of Philosophy and Political Science. There is an interdisciplinary focus on teaching and research in the field of “Religion and Politics” with special emphasis on philosophical references.
The Department of Humanities and Theology at TU Dortmund University is seeking to fill the position of a
Professor (W2) in “Protestant Theology with a focus on the Old Testament”
commencing as soon as possible. The successful candidate will specialize in research and teaching in the field of “Protestant Theology with a focus on the Old Testament”.
TU Dortmund University is seeking an outstanding individual and established researcher in Old Testament Studies with relevant international publications in recognized venues, including those with peer review. The candidate’s reputation should be underpinned by national and/or international collaborations.
The incumbent is expected to cover the entire breadth of the subject. In addition to research in Old Testament Studies, this should include the theologically reflected hermeneutics of the Old Testament with regard to Judaism. A recognizable research connection to Judaism is an advantage.
Applicants should complement the research activities of the department and contribute to interdisciplinary collaborative research projects within and outside TU Dortmund University. Experience in raising third-party funds is expected.
An appropriate contribution to the department’s curriculum, e.g., in the interdisciplinary Master's program in religion and politics ("MAREPOL"), is expected; practical school experience is an asset.
The successful candidate will possess social and leadership skills and be willing to participate in academic self-governance.
The recruitment requirements are based on § 36 and § 37 HG NRW (law governing universities in NRW).
TU Dortmund University strives to increase the number of women in academic research and therefore explicitly encourages women to apply.
TU Dortmund University is an equal opportunity employer and gives preference to candidates with disabilities if equally qualified.
TU Dortmund University supports the compatibility of work and family life and promotes gender equality in science.
