OFFER DESCRIPTION

Fundação D. Anna de Sommer Champalimaud e Dr. Carlos Montez Champalimaud (Champalimaud Foundation), a private, non-profit research institution, is opening a call for a post-doctoral researcher. Eligible candidates must hold a PhD or Doctorate degree and will be offered an employment contract with unknown term, within the scope of the research project entitled "Searching for the principles of collective motion and collective decisions: a new generation of experiments and models based on interpretable AI ", funded by Portuguese National Funds (PIDDAC).

 

The contract is to be entered into by and between the Champalimaud Foundation and the selected candidate in accordance with all applicable legislation, including Law-Decree 57/2016, of the 29th of August of 2016 in its current edition and the General Labour Code, as well as the internal rules and regulations of the Champalimaud Foundation, taking into account the conditions set out in the above mentioned Law-Decree for the recruitment of PhD Holders within the scope of research projects funded by public funds.

The employment contract is with unknown term, starting within the 30 days after this call closing date. Notwithstanding, the parties may, at any time, wish to celebrate a permanent employment contract.

The contract of employment resulting from this vacancy will expire due to the supervening, absolute and definitive impossibility of being given continuity if its respective funding is terminated without prejudice to the communication of its termination to the worker, in accordance with the provisions of article 345 of the Labor Code.

REMUNERATION

The monthly remuneration to be attributed is the 33rd level of the single remuneration table (TRU), approved by Portaria nº 1553-C/2008, of December 31st, and updated by DL nº 10/2021, of February 1 starting at a base salary of 2,134.73 Euros.

Eligibility criteria

EVALUATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

The candidate’s selection will fully observe all applicable legislation and will consist in the evaluation of the scientific and curricular backgrounds of the candidates, with particular attention given to the relevance, quality, actuality and adequacy of the aforementioned backgrounds, to be weighed as follows:

-          motivation letter: 20%;

-          curriculum vitae: 50%;

- interview: 30%.

Evaluation scale: Each application shall be evaluated by the jury in a scale from 0% (not adequate) to 85% (excellent). Reference letters shall be requested (5%) and it shall also by evaluated the potential contribution of the candidate to the ongoing Lab's research (5%).

Evaluation methodology: Final evaluation will be based on the above-mentioned criteria. In the event of equal score between the top candidates, the jury will interview each candidate, the result of such interview to serve as the sole tie-breaker. The interview will focus on the research output (co-)produced by the candidates, namely in terms of content, novelty and innovation.

Based on the above, candidates will be ranked to reflect their global evaluation. A meeting minutes will record each jury meeting.

Selection process

To apply: candidates must submit a single document (paper or PDF file) that contains a motivation letter and the Curriculum Vitae, both written in English, collectively not exceeding 4 pages.

Paper applications must be handed at the Main Lobby Reception Desk of the Champalimaud Foundation in a closed envelope addressed to the HR&Fellows Office and identified with the abovementioned reference. Please include an email address at which to be contacted regarding your application.

Notification of Results: The highest scoring candidate will be notified by email or telephone. All other candidates will be notified solely by email.

Additional comments

Prior hearing and deadline for final decision: After being notified, candidates will have 10 work days to present a claim by email. If no claim is received by the Champalimaud Foundation, the jury’s decision will become definitive.

The present call has the sole purpose of filling the indicated research position. This call may be cancelled at any time on or before the jury’s evaluation of all eligible candidates and the recruitment process shall be concluded on the day of the full execution of the employment contract between the Champalimaud Foundation and the selected candidate.

Skills/Qualifications

WORK TO BE PERFORMED

The candidate will perform experiments with fish collectives or perform analysis or modelling using state-of-the-art machine learning methods.

PROFILE OF CANDIDATES

Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Biology, Mathematics, or similar fields.

Minimum Requirements: Experience in mathematical modelling or machine learning or experiments in animal behavior.

Preferential Factors: Mathematical modelling or experiments in behavior.

Specific Requirements

The selected candidate must submit proof of her/his PhD or Doctoral Degree within 10 days following notification of the preliminary results. More information about Diplomas recognition may be found in the Euraxess portal.
