The new technology of non-contact sensing offers the chance of monitoring of civil structures via images with the aid of data-driven techniques. The research project intends to evaluate the health and integrity of large civil structures such as dams and cross-sea bridges using satellite images with the aid of data mining and advanced machine learning techniques. It is may be difficult to monitor these structures when one needs to observe large and wide areas, and it may be more difficult for long-term health monitoring projects, which may be implemented at every hour. In particular, when the initial features are Big Data or there are large volumes of high-dimensional features, it may be time-consuming to apply them for decision-making with the aid of machine learning algorithms.
