Neuropsychology: Healthy aging from youth and Cerebrovascular disease

Group and project information
Applicants will be integrated into the research group “Neuropsychology: Healthy aging and Cerebrovascular disease” (P.I. Maria Mataro; Researcher ID: B-4524-2011).
A multidisciplinary team of researchers aware of the need for prevention and treatment of brain and cognitive decline associated with normal aging and disease. Our lab aims at providing new evidence of the impact and effectiveness of neuroprotective non-pharmacological interventions -physical exercise, cognitive training and mindfulness-, to understand their molecular and neural mechanisms and to promote the development of novel strategies in the field of neurorehabilitation. We apply a highly interdisciplinary approach that combines principles from neuropsychology, neuroimaging, biochemistry, engineering and molecular biology. The successful candidate will be involved in the projects entitled “Young-fit project: physical fitness, cognition and wellbeing in young adults. An study from neuroimaging, epigenetics and gut microbiome”, “Integrative omics study on the neurobiological effects of physical activity and cognitive stimulation” and “Exercise the mind and the brain. a multimodal intervention in stroke”
Functions and tasks
The position requires the ability to embrace new technologies and methods. The candidate will have general knowledge of the fields of biology and omics technologies. The postdoctoral researcher will be expected to contribute to data management, analysis and publication of the results in peer reviewed scientific journals, to participate in scientific meetings, seminars and other appropriate professional activities, and to provide guidance to undergraduate and graduate students in the laboratory.
Requirements for candidates:
- Doctoral Degree in cellular/molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, bioinformatics, or related disciplines
- Experience in analysis of microbiome, epigenetics, transcriptomics or metabolomics data
- Ability to work outside established field of expertise and work well collaboratively in a team environment
- Excellent publication record in the last 5 years
Must not have spent or carried out the main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Spain for more than 12 months between 11th September 2018 and 11th September 2021.
