The position is integrated in a project for the investigation of the atomic and nuclear structure of actinides and transactinides by laser spectroscopy. This comprises technical and methodological developments of the employed experimental setups as well as carrying out experiments at the JGU as well as at the GSI Helmholtzzentrum in Darmstadt, Germany.
Your tasks:
The successful candidate will have the following tasks
- Scientific development and optimization of laser spectroscopic methods for the research of exotic nuclides in the region of the heaviest elements
- participation in experiments to investigate actinides and transactinides using Resonance ionization laser spectroscopy in gas cells and gas jets
- operation, improvement, and optimization of customized laser systems (dye- and solid-state lasers, pulsed and cw) for the research on radio nuclides
- presenting scientific results in publications and talks
- preparing scientific reports and funding applications
- participation in supervising bachelor-, master- and PhD students
- supporting teaching in the faculty of Chemistry, Pharmaceutics, Geography und Geosciences

Your profile:
In addition to the general requirements according to public services law, applicants must meet the recruitment requirements stipulated in § 57 of the Hochschulgesetz of Rhineland-Palatinate.
- A successfully completed university degree
- A doctorate in atomic or nuclear physics
- Post-graduation full-time work experience of at least 2.5 years
- Experience with operating laser systems (dye- and solid-state lasers, pulsed and cw)
- Experience with software for experiment control and data analysis are desirable.
- Good communication skills in English (both verbal and written)
