OFFER DESCRIPTION

RESIDENCIAS consortium is seeking Data Scientists, App developers, Data Engineers and GIS Analysts to build a data-driven platform to carry out a comprehensive multidisciplinary study of the vulnerability to covid-19 of the elderly population.

RESIDENCIAS, is a consortium of the Spanish National Research Council (CSIC), participated by institutes located in different Spanish cities: IEGD (Madrid) and IFCA (Santander), will be operative at least until December 2022. We are now seeking four full-time experts in computing and GIS with the skills, know-how and the spirit to face the challenges inherent in this research project.

The basic skills required of all the candidates are the following:

  • Experience in the usage of a Linux environment.
  • Capacity to communicate in English, both oral and written.
  • Fluency with high-level programming languages (depending on the profile).
  • Experience with software development, software engineering methodologies and distributed version control systems (Git).

For each of the profiles offered, these are the particular skills needed:

1 position with a background as GIS Analyst

  • We are looking for a GIS Analyst who will be responsible for undertaking GIS data preparation, data management, mapping, analysis, and visualization to support diverse processes with the project. The candidate will be responsible for analyzing spatial data using mapping software and reprocessing tools, as well as creating spatial data for use in internal processes and applications. Creating high-quality cartographic map outputs, developing and providing administration support for web mapping applications is a key part of this role.
  • The positions will be carried out at IEGD.
  • Key Accountabilities
    • Essential Experience:
      • Experience in a similar position and/or a Master’s degree in a relevant discipline
      • Proven knowledge in ESRI ArcGIS Pro, ERSI ArcGIS Online/Portal for ArcGIS
      • Advanced knowledge of R programming knowledge, including Shiny
      • Experience using Microsoft Access and Excel
      • Knowledge of geographic principles including the capture, maintenance and management of geographic information
      • Knowledge of Metadata standards and European GIS datasets
      • Experience in successful data management
      • Excellent presentation and communication skills
    • Desirable Experience:
      • Experience in the infrastructure or environment disciplines
      • Experience of programming in either: Python or SQL
      • Exposure to ESRI Model Builder
      • Use of ArcGIS Server, ArcSDE

2 positions with a background in data analysis

  • Successful Candidates will have a passion for storytelling through data visualisation and the ability to visualise complex ideas in a clear, accurate, creative, and intelligent manner. It will be also beneficial for a candidate to possess proficient writing skills to support and present data analysis, alongside scrupulous attention to detail. Strong statistical background is required.
  • The positions will be carried out at IEGD.
  • Required skills:
    • Ability to import and clean large data sets;
    • Familiarity with intermediate to high-level statistics;
    • Proven proficiency with database managers such as MySQL and/or PostgreSQL and fluency in structured query language (SQL);
    • Expertise in statistical packages such as R;
    • Development and visualization skills (HTML, CSS, Javascript and JQuery, d3, three.js or other visualization libraries), mapping and graphics skills (Illustrator, AI2html, MapBox, ArcGIS PRO, QGIS);
    • Working knowledge of Gitlab/Github, including familiarity with cloning a project pushing/merging content to an existing repository, and using Git commands the command line;
    • Ability to write about complex topics clearly.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • Programming experience in Python
    • Knowledge of Machine Learning methods
    • PowerBI or similar essential

1 position with a background in data science

  • Successful Candidates will be familiar with data science techniques covering the whole data life cycle and the main Machine Learning/Deep Learning tools for data analysis. It will be also beneficial for the candidate to possess proficient writing skills (both in English and Spanish) to support and present data analysis, alongside scrupulous attention to detail. Strong statistical background is required.
  • The positions will be carried out at IFCA.
  • Required skills:
    • Ability to import and clean large data sets
    • Familiarity with intermediate to high-level statistics
    • Programming experience in Python
    • Familiarity with Pandas, Numpy and Matplotlib
    • Knowledge of Machine Learning and Deep Learning methods
    • Working knowledge of Gitlab/Github, including familiarity with cloning a project, pushing/merging content to an existing repository, and using Git commands.
    • Ability to write about complex topics clearly.
  • Desirable Experience:
    • Familiarity with Tensorflow and Keras
    • Data visualization libraries

The required information to apply to these positions is:

For each of the positions we offer a 1.5-year (18 months) contract from June-July 2021 up to December 31st 2022. The gross annual salary will be between 30000€ and 40000€, according to the CSIC scales and the candidate qualifications. The contract includes all the benefits of the Spanish Public Health and Social Security system. Applications are welcome until the positions are filled. Upon agreement, remote work is an option.

Starting date: preferably June-July 2021.
