OFFER DESCRIPTION
The Faculty of Health Sciences Blanquerna - University Ramon Llull (Barcelona) offers:
POSTDOCTORAL FELLOWSHIP
WITHIN H2020 Qualidec project
To undertake a postdoctoral research work in the framework of the funded project: 847567 (Qualidec)
The objectives of the QUALI-DEC project: to improve the quality of caesarean section decisions
The over-use of caesarean sections can no longer be seen solely as the result of inappropriate clinical practices. Non-clinical factors, such as social, cultural and structural influence, have emerged as important potential factors and need to be taken into account in order to effectively address this problem.
Non-clinical interventions have been shown (mainly in high-income countries) to reduce Caesarean section rates, such as decision support or having a family member accompany the woman during childbirth.
The QUALI-DEC strategy and tools: Based on the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO) and scientific studies, our strategy consists of four components aimed at reducing non-medically justified Caesarean sections.
– The use of opinion leaders to encourage evidence-based clinical practice.
– Review of caesarean section indications by the caregivers themselves with feedback to the whole team (audit & feedback) to avoid unnecessary interventions.
– Support by a relative to reassure the woman during labour.
– A decision support tool to encourage dialogue between caregivers and women during pregnancy monitoring.
A mixed-methodology concurrent longitudinal design is applied entailing a multi-phases strategy. The first two phases will consist of two empirical studies analyzing the conceptions, needs and challenges to implement the four components in participant countries. The intervention phase includes training of opinion leaders and data collectors, and the evaluation phase will assess the development of the quali-dec project implementation.
Results will contribute, on one hand, to creating interdisciplinary and inter-sectorial knowledge to progress on the search of solutions for the challenge of defining and developing a strategy to improve women’s decision making related to reproductive health. On the other hand, results will also facilitate new technology development and its transfer into a data-driven educational proposal including the following aspects: a) Early career researchers, supervisors, stakeholders, employers and communities conceptions, voices and communication, b) Relationships and gaps between academic and non-academic careers, and, c) Personal life balance and career trajectories.
