Econometrics is paramount for decision-making in business and economics. Combinations of both model-driven econometrics and data-driven statistics approach are supportive techniques to the development of strategies for operating in any of several contrasting business and economic environment. The Research Assistant will be expected to deliver a Pilot Business model, providing technical and overall inputs and development, working under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment. For this vacancy it is required use of advanced quantitative methods and techniques, perform empirical econometric analysis and apply new models.

Expected Outputs and Deliverables

  • Scenarios for business planning with a focus on measurement and prediction of investment activities.
  • Modelling of risk factors and prediction of economic outcomes.

Job Description/Technical Contributions:

  • Using the statistical techniques of econometric modelling and multiple regressions to project cost-effectiveness performance within scenario-based planning.
  • Working on strategic supply chain design and scenario planning - working on data analysis in support of business cases.
  • Applying modelling and economic analysis methods.
  • Performing technical analysis for investment-related projects, including investment feasibility, financial analysis, legal and policy analysis..
  • Demonstrating strong analytical skills and ability to extract and process economic data.
  • Facilitating workshops, conferences and stakeholder meetings relevant projects.
  • Drafting reports, interviews and researches.

The salary will be set between salary scale 6 to 10 of the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities (from € 2.052,00 to € 4.402,00 gross per month depending on experience and qualifications, based on a full-time appointment). On top of this, there is a 8% holiday allowance and a 8.3% year-end allowance.

The terms of employment of Maastricht University are set out in the Collective Labour Agreement of Dutch Universities (cao-NU). Furthermore, local UM provisions also apply. Notable terms include a pension scheme, substantial leave arrangements, an optional collective healthcare plan and partially paid parental leave. The ideal candidate has: 

  • Minimal Bachelor's degree in Economics, Investment, Statistics, Business, or related technical area.
  • Advanced knowledge of econometric and quantitative methods.
  •  Experience with quantitative economic analysis and modelling techniques.
  • Strong analytical and communication capabilities, critical thinking skills.
  • The ability to work independently and in teams; self-motivated professional.
  • Fluency in English.
