5GSmartFact ITN funded H2020 Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Actions European is recruiting 14 PhD students (Early-Stage Researchers, ESRs).
Future Wireless Connected and Automated Industry Enabled by 5G - 5GSmartFact
5GSmartFact is an MSCA-ITN project funded by H2020 of the EU whose objective is to study, develop, optimize and assess the deployment of 5G networks that target the IIoT requirementsin factory environments, and exploit them to integrate factory applications, especially those related to robot-control and robot navigation.
5GSmartFact is a Horizon 2020 - Marie Skłodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks - European Industrial Doctorate (H2020-MSCA-ITN-2020). It is jointly organized by:

Researchers will be enrolled in a doctoral programme and work in one of the following 14 projects:
ESR 1. Autonomous and collaborative robotic systems in 5G smart factories (SPAIN)
ESR 2. Slicing for 5G dense radio networks (SPAIN)
ESR 3. Time Sensitive Network (TSN) over wireless networks in industrial environments (SPAIN)
ESR 4. Applications of Visible Light Communications (VLC) to the IIoT (SPAIN)
ESR 5. Enhanced interference mitigation techniques for industrial private networks (DENMARK)
ESR 6. Massive MIMO Communication for Industry 4.0 Use-cases (DENMARK)
ESR 7. Intelligent radio environments (IRE) for Industry 4.0 (FRANCE)
ESR 8. Transfer Learning for Optimizing Intelligent Radio Environments (FRANCE)
ESR 9. Channel models and network planning for 5G private industrial networks infrastructure (FRANCE)
ESR 10. Inter-communication of edge computing platform to support IIoT deployments (GERMANY)
ESR 11. AI-Based network slicing orchestration supporting end-to-end service requirements (GERMANY)
ESR 12. Cooperative and multimodal localization in 5G-enabled multi-robot systems (PORTUGAL)
ESR 13. Detection and grasping of objects in robotics (GERMANY)
ESR 14. 5G-Based indoor positioning in industrial environments (GERMANY)
Each doctoral project is co-supervised by at least two institutions and includes a secondment in a different entity and country. All researches will spend 50% of their time in the industry.
Researchers will have 3-year employment contracts, including social security coverages. An extra mobility allowance and a family allowance will also be provided.

Contract and Salary
The ESR will have a three-year full time employment contract with their Home Institution. The employment contract will provide social security coverage.
The ESR will become a full member of the institution with the same rights as regular staff with the same position. This concerns, among others, working conditions, professional environment, access to the institutional resources, and participation to decision-making bodies.
During their whole contract under the 5GSmartFact programme, the ESR must not receive any scholarship or subvention by the European Commission.
Mobility and Family Allowances
ESRs will receive a Mobility Allowance as a contribution to their private mobility related expenses; and a Family Allowance should the researcher have family, regardless of whether the family will move with the researcher or not. In this context, family is defined as persons linked to the researcher by (i) marriage, or (ii) a relationship with equivalent status to a marriage recognised by the national or relevant regional legislation of the country where this relationship was formalised; or (iii) dependent children who are actually being maintained by the ESR. The family status of an ESR will be determined at the recruitment date and will not evolve during his/her participation in the 5GSmartFact programme.
The Mobility and Family Allowances may be paid as part of the basic salary or as a supplement, depending on the contractor.

Early-Stage Rule: applicants should be, at the time of recruitment by the host institution, in the first four years (full-time equivalent) of their research careers and have not yet been awarded a doctoral degree. This is measured from the date when applicants obtained the degree, which would formally entitle them to embark on a doctorate.
Mobility Rule: researchers must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country indicated for each position (Spain, Denmark, France, Germany or Portugal) for more than 12 months in the 3 years immediately before the recruitment date. Compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent as part of a procedure for obtaining refugee status under the Geneva Convention are not taken into account.
PhD Rule: once selected by the 5GSmartFact consortium for the ESR positions, the applicants must apply for the PhD programme at the respective recruiting sites.
Priority List: applicants can select up to 3 individual job offers (listed below). The hiring process will take into account the priority specified by the applicant.
