The Institute of Fluid Flow Machinery Polish Academy of Sciences (Instytut Maszyn Przepływowych im Roberta Szewalskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk)

is the leading organization in the field of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat exchange, laser measurement techniques, machinery dynamics, tribology and diagnostics of energy production machinery. The thematic orientation of its research concerns aerodynamics, solid mechanics and energy conversion in flows including plasma and lasers.

The Institute (Instytut Maszyn Przepływowych im Roberta Szewalskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk)

is the second largest institute in the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Institute employs about 200 people, of whom 100 are scientific researchers. There are 20 professors and 35 scientists with doctoral degrees. The Institute is the leading organization in the field of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat exchange, laser measurement techniques, machinery dynamics, tribology and diagnostics of energy production machinery. The thematic orientation of its research concerns aerodynamics, solid mechanics and energy conversion in flows including plasma and lasers.

Eligibility criteria

o Master degree in mechanical engineering in the field of steam and gas turbines or similar.

o Good knowledge of written and spoken English.

o Excellent knowledge of written and spoken Polish.

o Knowledge of specialized software such as Ansys Structural, Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, Ansys ICEM, Patran, Inventor, Autocad.

o Knowledge of Python programming language and script languages: APDL, LaTeX.

o Experience in numerical analysis of:

- steady and unsteady fluid flow in blades of steam turbines,

- heat exchange between fluid and solid in steam turbine,

- flutter of rotor blades of steam turbine,

- optimisation of blade profiles of steam turbine, especially with genetic algorithms.

o Ability to develop own Finite Volume Method codes and create codes to automate commercial programmes.

o Experience in working in a similar position.

Skills/Qualifications

We are looking for a candidate for the research assistant position that has a good knowledge about the machine dynamics and diagnostics.

The candidate should fulfill the requirements as follow:

- Possession of the Master’s Degree in mechanical engineering in the field of steam and gas turbines or similar.

- Master degree in mechanical engineering.

- Good knowledge of written and spoken English.

- Excellent knowledge of written and spoken Polish.

- Knowledge of specialized software such as Ansys Structural, Ansys CFX, Ansys Fluent, Ansys ICEM, Patran, Inventor, Autocad.

- Knowledge of Python programming language and script languages: APDL, LaTeX.

- Experience in numerical analysis of: steady and unsteady fluid flow in blades of steam turbines, heat exchange between fluid and solid in steam turbine, flutter of rotor blades of steam turbine, optimisation of blade profiles of steam turbine, especially with genetic algorithms.

- Documented scientific achievements in journals from the A list, participation in scientific conferences.

Specific Requirements

An additional asset will be the research experience in the rapid prototyping topic also documented publications in the mentioned scientific domains.
