The Collaborative Research Centre/Transregio (CRC/TRR) 270 (https://www.tu-darmstadt.de/sfb270/) involves internationally leading researchers from TU Darmstadt, Universität Duisburg-Essen, Max Planck Institute for Iron Research and Ernst Ruska-Centre for Microscopy and Spectroscopy with Electrons (ER-C) at Forschungszentrum Jülich. Their common goal is the development of new magnetic materials for efficient energy conversion technologies. This requires a detailed understanding of the structural, magnetic and electronic interactions within the material in order to adjust the local and global properties. The research within CRC/TRR combines modern computational sciences with advanced characterization and synthesis methods and new processing techniques like additive manufacturing and severe plastic deformation.

The CRC/TRR 270 searches for a highly motivated and dynamic early career scientist with the potential of performing excellent research. We offer a highly stimulating environment to conduct own research, and to work with modern equipment and state-of-the-art support structures in a collaborative research consortium of more than 15 research groups. Successful candidates on a post- doctoral level will be encouraged and supported to set up their own research group at one of the two universities of their choice within the CRC/TRR 270.

Type and extent of funding

The successful candidate (post-doc or PhD student) will receive funding for their own position and a yearly budget for consumables (initially for three years with a possible extension). The post-doctoral researcher may receive additional funds to establish a junior research group. Equipment and facilities will be provided by the host institution.

Post-doctoral researchers who

have completed their doctorate no longer than 5 years ago (exceptions apply)

have proven outstanding academic achievements in their field and

are planning to conduct a research project within the framework of the CRC/TRR 270


Junior Researchers who

have completed their master in physics, materials science or a related field and

wish to perform research within the CRC/TRR 270 (with the possibility to obtain a PhD)

Your profile:

You are a highly talented early-stage scientist with an excellent track record in physics, materials science or a related area. You are exceptionally motivated, creative, and highly collegial with a collaborative, curious, well-organized work ethic and excellent written and oral communication skills in English or German.
