OFFER DESCRIPTION
The Institute of Molecular Biotechnology at the Graz University of Technology, Graz, Austria, has two open research positions in the area rational protein design. The Biocatalysis and Enzyme Engineering team investigates the engineering of enzymes and whole-cell biocatalysts for the development of environmentally-friendly processes. A focal point is the improvement of biocatalysts by directed enzyme evolution. The institute coordinates several European and national research projects and offers thus a dynamic and international environment for research.
The research within an FWF-funded project aims for the application of non-canonical amino acids for the engineering of the catalytic mechanisms of enzymes.
The positions are suited for PhD students and offer the opportunity for further scientific development. Salary will be as a regular research assistant paid according to B1 for 30 h per week. Start date is October 1st, 2021.
Ideal candidates hold a master degree in chemistry, biochemistry or a related discipline and have experience in either organic synthesis, enzyme engineering, or biocatalysis. The successful candidates are expected to conduct research in an interdisciplinary topic within a collaboration with partners in Canada and the Netherlands. Thus, high motivation, flexibility and team orientation as well as very good spoken and written English skills are important. Basic German skills are a plus.
