Three PhD Positions (m/w/d) “Methods and Algorithms in Machine Learning” (Ref.-Nr. w27-21)
The Chair of Data Science and Data Engineering at the Department of Computer Science of TU Dortmund University invites applications for three research assistant positions as PhD students. The initial employment for three years can start at the earliest possible date. According to the public tarif regulations, the salary is based on the tarif group E13 TV-L with 100 % of the regular work time. The positions are, in principle, also appropriate for part time employment.
The three open PhD positions complement our current research team with new research topics in core areas of machine learning:
• Representation Learning on Complex Data
• Explainable and Trustworthy Anomaly Detection
• Verifiable Predictive Analytics
We aim at both fundamental theoretical research as well as practical applications in form of close collaboration with industrial partners. The positions are embedded in a creative, attractive, and internationally renowned research environment. We strive for research as a team contribution of our research group with international research colleagues in joint publications and presentations at leading international conferences.
Responsibilities:
Development of formal methods and efficient algorithms in the research field of machine learning methods for complex data (e.g. high dimensional data, sensor data streams, complex networks). Research collaborations with international research teams and industrial partners in joint research projects. Supervision of Master students as well as conduction of tutorials and courses (4 hours/week). Contributions in conception and implementation of algorithms in our open source projects. Publications and presentations of scientific results at high ranked international conferences in areas of data science.

REQUIRED LANGUAGESENGLISH: Excellent
Specific Requirements
Excellent degree (Master of Science) in computer science, physics, mathematics or similar programs with good knowledge in statistics, linear algebra, as well as algorithms and data structures. Practical experience in machine learning algorithms is an advantage. High degree of creativity, commitment, analytical competence, and teamwork. High proficiency in English, both written and spoken for your scientific publications and presentations.
