The Institute for AI Safety and Security provides research and development services in the field of AI-related methods, processes, algorithms and execution environments. The focus is on ensuring safety and security for AI-based solutions in ambitious application classes. “Safety and security by design” is a central aspect in this context, since it directly supports future requirements of safety-critical applications that are based on AI or integrate AI-based components. Main Research Areas of the Institute for AI Safety and Security are:
- development processes and methods for safety-critical AI applications
- robust and reliable approaches to safeguard AI methods and algorithms
- safety and security in the context of AI-based applications
- management and use of sensitive data
- execution environments for AI-based applications
- innovative computation methods.
In the Institute’s focus area of Execution Environments for AI-based Systems, you are head of a group that strives for a family of conceptually linked platforms, which e.g. can be used to reliably execute AI-based functions in lightweight mobile systems as well as in server or could/edge-based environments. With this focus, you also have to take expectable future opportunities and risks of innovative computing approaches into account (e.g. quantum computing). For you and your team, requirements in the area of safety and security are highly important – they must be always fulfilled sufficiently. Your findings are essential for future applications in aviation, space as well as in the fields of energy and transport. You will closely work together with experts from other branches of the Institute for AI Safety and Security as well as the DLR to ensure a high level of quality and practical relevance for your insights and results. By this you contribute to the safety-oriented introduction of AI-based solutions in ambitious application classes. The possibility to further extend an already higher scientific qualification level will be offered
This research center is part of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers. With more than 42,000 employees and an annual budget of over € 5 billion, the Helmholtz Association is Germany's largest scientific organisation.
