Offer Description

The Department of Agroecology at Aarhus University, Denmark, is offering a postdoctoral position in microbiome-mediated drought resistance in barley, starting 01-08-2023 or as soon as possible thereafter. The position will be available for a 2.5-year period.
You will be working on the project “BarleyMicroBreed - Strategies for breeding climate change resilient barley – genetically equipped to optimized root-microbiome interactions” ( funded by Horizon Europe. The aim is to investigate the hypothesis that optimized interactions between plant roots and the existing soil microbiota can improve crop plant resource efficiency and drought resilience. The project is carried out in collaboration with colleagues from Denmark, Austria, Morocco, Lebanon, Germany, Czech Republic and Sweden.

The specific aim of the Post Doc project will be to analyze metabarcoding and metagenome data from root microbiota of 600 barley lines grown at our field experiments in Lebanon, Morocco and Austria by, and to relate microbiota composition to drought stress responses and other phenotypic characters of the lines. The project will be fully integrated into the BarleyMicroBreed project, and you will therefore collaborate closely with partners involved in the project, particularly with colleagues at University of Copenhagen on high-performance bioinformatics and statistics. We expect that you will be an important part of the research environment and that you will contribute positively to the social working environment. We also expect that you will take part in our teaching activities and that you will report research results in high-impact scientific journals.
