OFFER DESCRIPTION
FP-46 Masters in InP based photonic integrated circuits
Contract: Full Time/Fixed Term
Tyndall National Institute at University College Cork invite applications for a research masters position aimed at the development of the processing techniques for Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs). The successful candidate will have completed an undergraduate degree or higher diploma in a physics or engineering related discipline. This position will require a candidate who will work on fabricating the photonic devices and PICs, and work on the related design and characterization.
The research program is focused on developing and applying quantum well intermixing (QWI) to photonic devices and circuits. QWI is used to alter material properties of quantum well material, shifting the bandgap to higher energies. The technique will be applied to creating passive regions in extended cavity semiconductor lasers, with a goal of achieving very low linewidth operation.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities will include the development of the processing techniques for Photonic Integrated Circuits (PICs) and the design, fabrication, and characterisation of photonic devices.
Essential Criteria
- An undergraduate or high diploma’s degree in physics, computer science or engineering.
- An interest in the physics of optoelectronic devices.
- Motivation and a desire to learn.
Desired Criteria
- Experience with III-V semiconductor processing techniques
