The Institute (Instytut Maszyn Przepływowych im Roberta Szewalskiego Polskiej Akademii Nauk)

is the second largest institute in the Polish Academy of Sciences. The Institute employs about 200 people, of whom 100 are scientific researchers. There are 20 professors and 35 scientists with doctoral degrees. The Institute is the leading organization in the field of fluid mechanics, multiphase flows, thermodynamics and heat exchange, laser measurement techniques, machinery dynamics, tribology and diagnostics of energy production machinery. The thematic orientation of its research concerns aerodynamics, solid mechanics and energy conversion in flows including plasma and lasers.

The Department of Turbine Dynamics and Diagnostics has operated under its present name since 2014, and was formed on the basis of the Department of Rotor Dynamics and Slide Bearings, which functioned from 1998 to 2014. The research works currently being carried out by the Department of Turbine Dynamics and Diagnostics are focused mainly on a broadly understood dynamics of fluid-flow machinery, including unconventional bearing systems. In the course of scientific investigations we take advantage of modern measurement equipment and advanced numerical models.

Our research topics include:

• Analysis and modelling of dynamic impacts

• Experimental studies of machinery

• Renewable energy

The Department of Turbine Dynamics and Diagnostics has at its disposal a very modern laboratory base. It includes Machine Vibrodiagnostics Laboratory, Micro CHP Power Plant Laboratory and Rapid Prototyping Laboratory. Our employees have also participated in the design of one of the laboratories in the Research Center PAN in Jabłonna near Warsaw.

We offer a full time, challenging position in a young and rapidly growing Department of Turbine Dynamics and Diagnostics at the beginning for 3 years with a perspective for further undetermined period. We offer a salary predicted for that position at IMP PAN, plus extra salary depending on research projects possibilities.

We offer a Post-Doctoral position (research associate) in the Multiphase Flow Group, IMP PAN Gdańsk, Poland (www.imp.gda.pl/en)

A full time (40 h/week) employment is funded, starting by a three-month

trial period for new employees. The gross salary is 4680 PLN/month

(indicatively: equivalent to ~750 €/month net income, subject to some

variation depending on tax regulations and on the EUR/PLN exchange

rate). There are no constraints as to the nationality of the applicant;

however, no extra mobility allowance neither family allowance can be

granted, no visa fee refund, etc.

Eligibility criteria

• PhD in Mechanical Engineering or related area

• Expertise in dynamics and bearing systems used in rotating machines

• Knowledge of measuring equipment used for testing of mechanical structures

• Predispositions to solve engineering tasks and conduct research

• Knowledge of CAD software (e.g. Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD)

• Knowledge of measurement software (e.g. Test.Lab, DESOFT, Labview)

• Exactitude and ability to conduct independent research with limited supervision as well as ability to work in a team

• Good knowledge of the English language

• Demonstrated track record of high-quality publications

Additional advantages:

• Experience in diagnostics of rotating machines

• Experience in constructing machines and technical equipment

• Participation in apprenticeships or traineeships that took place in research institutes or companies

• The topic of the doctoral dissertation is associated with the subject of work carried out in the Department of Turbine Dynamics and Diagnostics
