OFFER DESCRIPTION

 

The candidate will develop pedagogical tools to promote the learning of basic principles and in-depth questions related to the economics of arts and culture in the broadest sense, including the economics of artistic work and the role of intermediaries, while introducing students to the challenges of globalization in the cultural sector.

He/she will also encourage students to meet with actors in the field, companies and cultural institutions. The courses assigned to the candidate will be given primarily to students in Cultural Management, but also to students in Art History and Archaeology, Sociology, Performing Arts and at the Solvay Brussels School of Economics and Management.

He/she will have to be able to adapt his/her pedagogical approach to audiences of varying size and expectations (large audiences vs. small classes) composed of MA students with varied profiles and educational backgrounds.

He/she will be polyvalent in supervising and assessing MA dissertations on topics related to cultural management in the broadest sense as well as doctoral dissertations. He/she will work to develop the said studies at the University, to give the latter an international reputation in this field through teaching and research, and to put his/her expertise to good use in the services rendered by the University to the community.

While being free to choose the final orientation of his/her research, the candidate will carry out research in the field of "Economics of Arts and Culture".

The candidate will have developed or will be committed to developing contacts with various Belgian and European authorities in the fields. He/she will also demonstrate the ability to coordinate interdisciplinary and international research projects. In addition, he/she will be able to collaborate in the creation of a laboratory/research center specific to cultural management issues.

As to the teaching assignments, there will be 4 courses overall.

Course included in the load at the time of recruitment (as of academic year 2021-22):

GEST-B-515 (MA – Bloc 2) Projet de gestion culturelle – 10 ECTS [Cluster 3 – Application: seminars and group works : 48 h], jointly with the current instructor.

Courses to be created (as of academic year 2022-23):

GECU-D-405 (MA – Bloc 1) Introduction à l’économie des arts et de la culture – 5 ECTS [Cluster 2 – Territories – ex-cathedra course : 24h]

GECU-D-502 (MA – Bloc 2) Questions approfondies et actualités de l’économie des arts et de la culture – 5 ECTS [Cluster 2 – Territories – ex-cathedra course : 12h, supervision of exercices : 12h]

A fourth course will be added to the teaching load during academic year 2023-24.

 

Main Research Field: Cultural Management

Required educational level: PhD Degree in History, Art History and Archaeology, or Economics and Management

 

Required Language: French: excellent (C1 level)

  • a note on the applicant's international achievements and projects (no more than 4 pages)
  • the names and e-mail addresses of five references (with equal gender representation) who may be contacted by those in charge of evaluating applications. These references should not have conflicts of interest because of family or emotional ties.
  • the successful candidate may be required to present documents attesting to previous work experience to prove 4 years of scientific seniority.
