OFFER DESCRIPTION

A funded PhD position is available within the topic of ‘synthesis, optical and optoelectronic characterization of copper nitride (Cu3N) nanoparticles’

A PhD topic with stipend is available at the Institute of Technology of the Estonian University of Life Sciences, Tartu, Estonia starting from 1st September 2021. The project will be carried out in the Nanotechnology and Materials Science group found in the Energy Applications Engineering Chair. The Institute has an international research profile.

This PhD project consists of synthesizing copper nitride (Cu3N) nanoparticles by soft chemical routes. The candidate will be affiliated to the Nanomaterials and Nanotechnology work group at the Institute of Technology. The ideal candidate should have experience in nanoparticle synthesis via chemical routes. He or she should be well versed with characterization techniques such as XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy, PL spectroscopy, FT-IR, SEM, TEM, I-V and C-V characterization.

A background in nanomaterial synthesis and optical and electrical characterization is required. The candidate should preferably have experience in device fabrication. For this, a background in physics, physical chemistry, nanotechnology or materials science is essential. Previous publications and research experience are highly relevant for this application. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will be enrolled as a full time PhD student for four years. During the PhD, the student will also need to carry out research related visits to other laboratory in France and Portugal. He or she will also have the opportunity to visit other laboratories (funding available from project funds, Erasmus and DORA programs) and attend summer schools and international conferences within the context of his or her PhD program.

The University is located in the city of Tartu in Estonia. It offers an appealing working environment and interesting activities to students. The student hostel is located next to the Institute. Tartu is a University town in the South of Estonia offering several student activities the whole year round.
